    Signaller training in York.

The company prefers to issue train tickets. It may be possible to claim back fuel but it seems to vary from area to area. My area wouldn't pay for fuel as train tickets were issued for us. But it would make sense if it's quicker and easier for you! In my case the train ticket was £114 per week...

Yes we will quite often work with adjacent lines open to traffic. Especially at large stations where it's not possible to shut it all down. (Even though they should as there is lots of work to be done!)

When I worked on the PWay we would mainly walk from the access! A rare treat was a 360 with a man cage. But very cold in winter! I used to use trains to travel to faults. So much quicker than driving, especially in Friday afternoon holiday traffic. If it was something simple like a TSR board...

XC HST Split - Lawrence Hill (Bristol) - 31/10/16

There is Barton Hill Depot, where XC have some work done. I would have thought they would want it to go there or St. Phillips Marsh (GWR) asap. However its not easy as its facing the wrong way to be driven so will need hauling back to Bristol!

    Last Days of the 45/1's

Morning, just wondering if any one can help me out with my fading memory! I'm sure there was a service from Bristol TM to York I think in 87/88 on a Saturday morning leaving Bristol TM about 9. If I remember correctly it was a 45/1 and a take in NSE mark ones. If any one can confirm this and has...

Ah the Rhubarb! next to the line is The Rhubarb Tavern pub. which is the oldest building in the area. before it was a pub it was the farm house, and yes you've guessed it...they grew rhubarb. There is also a very old path from the track to the beer garden, my old ganger helped build it! I've had...

    Track Condition in the UK

I think it's a fantastic piece of equipment, if I had stayed on the p.way would have loved to use it. However I can see it ending up spending more time sat around in sidings along with most of our other yellow machines. We are very bad at utilising the expensive equipment available for track...

Hello! Well the main duties of the operative in track inspection will be lookout. That's not too say that's all it involves! Certainly at my former depot there were plenty of opportunities to learn and train on other parts of maintenance. Our operatives would always assist with repairing minor...

    A career as a signaller

I believe this will be coming in. Think about it, it takes time to go through the recruit process, then time and a lot of money for 9 weeks at signalling school, class, hotels etc. Then time and money to pass out on each panel/workstation! I think some of the OM's and LOM's are getting a little...
