A very good point, in this day and age you should be able to buy a ticket from East Croydon to London Terminals from Brighton station's ticket machines. You can't even buy zones 1-6 railcards online to pick up at the machines.

East Croydon is very handy I think and you have the option of very regular services to London Bridge too. Also, the trains run later from Victoria to Croydon then from Victoria to Bromley if you ever go out in London.
