Expansions for Scotland's rail network proposed

If you look at it in terms of reducing journey time - but the original thoughts were surely about removing it as a capacity constraint!

Any news on proposals to build an alternative route between Exeter & Plymouth?

If you're going to spend £2-£3billion (Network Rails estimate), the cost of electrifying it is minimal.

Have you had valid Delay Repay claims rejected?

Now had LNER give me a £10.60 refund for a 32 minute delay?

Have you had valid Delay Repay claims rejected?

Never had any problems with Scotrail - only rejection I had was based on a delay of 29 minutes (I thought it was bang on 30). However, one oddity I have noticed is that XC have sometimes given a slightly different refund to ScotRail on the same journey.....I use a season ticket, and sometimes...

Should the names of our train drivers be known to the public?

"You'll never guess who I had in the cab last week"....

Study to consider Borders Railway extension

Also, I think the business case would be stronger for that section. Might need fewer improvements to the existing line than a full extension to Carlisle.

ScotRail HST Introduction - Updates & Discussion

I was unaware that every service for the last 40 years on the GW has been Reading-Exeter non-stop.

ScotRail HST Introduction - Updates & Discussion

Part of the reason for that is that they do different duties. GWR HSTs dont really have nice long non-stop runs like the LNER ones do.

Expansions for Scotland's rail network proposed

I think 4 services each way per day would be enough, but I havnt seen anything on those changes in May. Thought the next big change was supposed to be December.

Expansions for Scotland's rail network proposed

Would only seem sensible if Barry Links were to be getting a better service. I dont think one train south at 6.18am and one return at 6.55 pm really justifies it.

Expansions for Scotland's rail network proposed

Barry Links only had 52 passengers in 17-18. Breich had 102. Does it have PIS as well now?

Expansions for Scotland's rail network proposed

I noticed this morning a most unusual improvement. Barry Links now has a brand new Passenger Information Screen. Do any other stations which have only one a train a day in each direction have that? Is this the station with the least amount of use to have one?

Expansions for Scotland's rail network proposed

I'm glad you pointed out the cheaper bus fares. Obviously the cheaper bus fares have already taken its toll on the commuting into Edinburgh from Fife and the Borders.... If we have learned anything from the last 50 years, its that Rail passengers dont transfer to/from Bus. Pretty much every...

Expansions for Scotland's rail network proposed

It seems that Beattock would attract people from a larger area. Theres also an active campaign for reopening, unlike the other examples, which has gathered evidence that there would be a reasonable patronage.

Expansions for Scotland's rail network proposed

While I think Beattock is a "no-brainer" reopening, I'm not so sure about the others. The real problem is what service do you get to serve these stations, and how will those extra stops impact on timings for the WCML expresses? Do you have to sacrifice a freight path?

ScotRail HST Introduction - Updates & Discussion

Every day this week, the 1530 Edinburgh - Aberdeen has been the refurbished HST. Although yesterday it had to start at Haymarket. Things starting to settle down?

FANTASY: If you could reopen/build any new line/station that are not part of the network

I'd rebuild the Didcot, Newbury and Southampton line. I'd build it to the same loading gauge as HS1, and clear the lines between Southampton and the West Midlands/NW to the same gauge.

Expansions for Scotland's rail network proposed

I believe they are talking about a new station on the City Union line (aka Glasgow CrossRail)

    More change for Network Rail

Glad to see you agree. As otherwise you'd have attacked the argument, rather than use an ad hom like that?
