Never had any problems with Scotrail - only rejection I had was based on a delay of 29 minutes (I thought it was bang on 30).
However, one oddity I have noticed is that XC have sometimes given a slightly different refund to ScotRail on the same journey.....I use a season ticket, and sometimes...
Also, I think the business case would be stronger for that section. Might need fewer improvements to the existing line than a full extension to Carlisle.
I think 4 services each way per day would be enough, but I havnt seen anything on those changes in May. Thought the next big change was supposed to be December.
Would only seem sensible if Barry Links were to be getting a better service. I dont think one train south at 6.18am and one return at 6.55 pm really justifies it.
I noticed this morning a most unusual improvement.
Barry Links now has a brand new Passenger Information Screen.
Do any other stations which have only one a train a day in each direction have that? Is this the station with the least amount of use to have one?
I'm glad you pointed out the cheaper bus fares. Obviously the cheaper bus fares have already taken its toll on the commuting into Edinburgh from Fife and the Borders....

It seems that Beattock would attract people from a larger area. Theres also an active campaign for reopening, unlike the other examples, which has gathered evidence that there would be a reasonable patronage.
While I think Beattock is a "no-brainer" reopening, I'm not so sure about the others. The real problem is what service do you get to serve these stations, and how will those extra stops impact on timings for the WCML expresses? Do you have to sacrifice a freight path?
Every day this week, the 1530 Edinburgh - Aberdeen has been the refurbished HST. Although yesterday it had to start at Haymarket.

I'd rebuild the Didcot, Newbury and Southampton line. I'd build it to the same loading gauge as HS1, and clear the lines between Southampton and the West Midlands/NW to the same gauge.
