Refused a Priv ticket - am I missing something?

The Priv Elisabeth line only £1.75 ticket is also available for Paddington to Abbey Wood but not to Stratford - ending journey short unlikely to be issue there ?

Direct bus journeys that only run on evenings/Sundays

First Essex service 42A Chelmsford to Bishops Stortford via Dunmow and Stansted Airport, 2 hourly on Sundays but Mon-Fri 1 (schooldays only) trip each way to/from Takeley.

    Are some trains too long?

Stansted Express arrivals at Liverpool Street that are lighter loaded always have around 80% of passengers getting off from rear 6 coaches as those with luggage dislike walking very far along the platform at Stansted when boarding.

    Greater Anglia nationalisation updates

That's a good way to bring SWR staff on side ?? DfT instruction or First Group sour grapes?

    IET 1st class dispute

I'd be inclined to buy walk up standard single then get 1st class excess from ticket office ( it isn't their concern what train you are going to use) just to annoy that guard

    Ely - Peterborough disruption (22/05)

Line blocked due to freight (4L14) stuck near Whittlesea - reportedly trespassers have caused some damage. I saw this on journey check as relative travelling through area.

    Railcard boundaries in silly places

I suspect Cross Country is the culprit for being awkward - eg. Anglia Plus rover & season tickets not bring valid on their services between Ely and Cambridge unlike the other TOC's in the area.

New DfT rail usage figures, big increase

The same Dft that has fallen in love with Advance tickets for yet more shorter journeys ? No surprise that revenue is lower !

    Advance tickets allocations, mechanics

A good example where multi-TOC Advance journey doesn't work very well is Norwich to Cornwall, most of the time there is only availability on 0932 and 2100 (into Sleeper inc. first class tickets which the Sleeper doesn't provide) It will be interesting how GBR deals with this sort of nonsense?

Commuter seat choices - interesting observation

Then you get those regulars that will sit next to anyone in their desired coach because it is closest to the platform exit at destination, even if 50% of the train has 4 passengers per coach !

    Advance Ticket Availability

I get what you mean, but it is quite possible to commute for £46 a day on Advances, when you consider pre-covid peak services only had Anytime or season ticket holders on board & the rail industry is supposed to have severe lack of fares income why does Dft have an obsession with Advance tickets ?

Weird ticket checks on platform by Great Northern staff

Yep me too - I collected some for August last week.

    Advance Ticket Availability

The discounted Anytime fare is fine, and for any journey where the discounted fare is below £12 you can still buy the fare at £12 anyway.
  18. S

    Advance Ticket Availability

You could also argue some Advance fares are set too low eg. Norwich to London for £12 Advance, while Off Peak single is £71.20 which obviously is a big jump if Advance quota all gone or your plans change at last minute. As Hadders says they were never designed for commuting.
  19. S

    Advance Ticket Availability

Simple answer - yes Advance fares are limited in number by individual train, quota could be 10 tickets per train or 200 depending on how busy a service is expected to be. Recently DfT have gone Advance ticket mad and they have been introduced for shorter journeys eg. under 30 minutes which...
