Manchester Airport - landing to train - how long?

I understand NatEx recommend a minimum 90 mins. Main risk is UKBA being a pain (it's taken us 45 mins to get through passport control before (not at MAN but it's possible anywhere), our bags had been taken off the belt)

Could the UK Rail System cope with mail and parcels?

Two Royal Mail 737s leave Exeter Airport each evening with mail from the SW around 23:30, one for Stansted and one for East Midlands. They are usually arriving back at around 3am so mail can be in the far SW by about 6am.

    Interesting Motorway services

Leicester services are due to close soon as the motorway is being widened. That is the problem with bridge services

    Airport gate allocations

Stands/Gates* are assigned by Airport Operations and will appear on a screen in the tower for the Ground controller (or Tower at smaller airport) to pass on to the aircraft. (ie Speedbird 123 taxi via Alpha to Stand 521) Things taken into account are aircraft size, whether it's a Domestic or...

    All Eurostar services suspended

Witness what happened recently at Stansted when some inbound and outbound passengers accidentally mixed briefly. The entire terminal was cleared out and EVERYONE had to be put through security again. This was despite the inbound passengers having cleared security in Lisbon. I could understand it...

    8 carriage trains

Plus there will be 10 car Cl 707s (Desiro City) arriving in 2017 for SWT Metro services. But as mentioned up thread, the suburban platforms at Waterloo can't take more then 8 cars at the moment, I believe the eventual plan is to move the Windsor lines into the former international platforms...

How to calculate my train miles covered.

Great, now it just needs a decimal option to make sums easier (hurry up Metrication)

How to calculate my train miles covered.

It's a pity someone can't make something as nice as Flight Diary (though I know calculating Great Circle distances is easier then rail mileages) Also Something that gives a decimal option would be nice rather then trying to convert chains!

    All Eurostar services suspended

I've seen it mentioned that the average foot passenger count is single digits per boat.

Waiting for a slot? Have to wonder how much of the North tunnel is open? Up to the UK crossover or the French Crossover? Shuttles are reduced to 2 per hour (1 passenger and one truck)

    All Eurostar services suspended

The tunnels are not airtight between each other (only the service tunnel is airtight, there are piston relief ducts at IIRC 150m intervals connecting the running tunnels), smoke will fill both tunnels so has to be vented out first - suspect their resuming service will be using the good tunnel

Why? Unload, then run back to Temple Mills?

Buses that run along an A or B road with the same number present or past

X38 Exeter to Plymouth? (though it doesn't use as much of the Devon Expressway as it used to)

Battery powered Electrostar to go into passenger carrying trials

Yep, wires stay at 25kV but are insulated for 50kV (though I should add that the insulators will be good for higher as there is always a margin built it)
  15. starrymarkb

Battery powered Electrostar to go into passenger carrying trials

Yes, its designed for 50kV (basically bigger insulators and gaps)

Battery powered Electrostar to go into passenger carrying trials

50kV insulation - Suspect the people trying to claim it's not doable are the togs on flickr complaining about knitting spoiling their shots!

    Heathrow Ticket Pickup

Can you not collect from the HEx machines? Though it wouldn't surprise me if not! Heathrow is a bit of an odd one. The tube station is local transit essentially and hence just sells tickets for the TfL system (with some exceptions), they don't have National Rail machines. Meanwhile the Heavy...
