Heathrow Ticket Pickup

I am happily going to visit the UK for the first time for a bit at the beginning of Feb. I am hoping that I can fly in to Heathrow and then take the underground to King's Cross and then on to Peterborough where my parents live.

So I have found a train on the National Rail Enquiries website, Heathrow Undergrd to Peterborough is £16.50 in advance (good price!!), forty quid on the day (not so good...), but there is no pickup at that station, or it seems at the whole airport (there is no Heathrow option on the drop down list of stations I can pick up from).

So what can I do? Should I maybe take a bus from the airport to a nearby 'main' line station to pick up the tickets, and then return to the airport to continue the journey?

I randomly selected Tue 3 Feb, and looked for Advance fares from London to Peterborough. There are fares at £11.25 at the least busy times, and £13.70 for much of the day.

If you have a contactless payment card, you can tap in with that at Heathrow and out at King's Cross St Pancras, which will cost you £3.10 for most of the day (£5.10 if you touch in between 0630-0930 Mondays-Fridays) and you can collect the London to Peterborough Advance from London King's Cross station.

The journey by Piccadilly Line takes around 1 hour (the actual travel time is 55mins, with trains typically every 5mins) but I'd allow at least 40mins at King's Cross station, and plenty of time at Heathrow (depending on the flight origin and likelihood of delays)

On the day fares from London (King's Cross) to Peterborough are priced from £18.40 to £50.00 depending on the day/time of travel (what day of the week is it, and what time is it?) and whether or not you're prepared to use the slower Great Northern trains (how inconvenient that may be depends vastly on the time of travel).

Thanks for that info - it is a bit strange that I cannot just pick the tickets up at Heathrow, but it looks like it will be cheaper yay !!

Can you not collect from the HEx machines? Though it wouldn't surprise me if not!

Heathrow is a bit of an odd one. The tube station is local transit essentially and hence just sells tickets for the TfL system (with some exceptions), they don't have National Rail machines. Meanwhile the Heavy Rail station is actually a private railway owned by the airport operators

No, stupidly. There are no TOD facilities at Heathrow at all.
