    Manchester - Liverpool Electrification

Excellent spot - did not see them this morning with the poor weather and steamed up windows. Noticed the first (that I've seen!) of several platform-located mast bases appeared at Prescot, Eccleston Park and Thatto Heath over the last week too.

    'Your next stop is?'

New sign at Broad Green - Liverpool bound. Certainly, I've been on a service that's failed to stop at Wavertree but I'm not sure that's statistically significant :)

    Manchester - Liverpool Electrification

Sorry for the delay, I wasn't ignoring your post but wondering much the same. St Helens and Garswood has been mostly complete base wise for a couple of weeks but I noticed the odd one or two extra kept popping up. A couple of standard concrete bases are now on Carr Mill bridge over the East...

    Manchester - Liverpool Electrification

Mast base update: More mast bases / bases under construction from Garswood through to St Helens Central. Quite a concentration of completed or covered ones around Carr Mill, Laffak, and Islands Brow. Still several intermediate stretches with none at all.

    Manchester - Liverpool Electrification

To follow up on DJH1971's post, several mast bases are now in (possibly have been for a day or two) east of SNH as far as Gerard's Bridge. Westward, there are also a scattered few around the line through the town centre and Ravenhead. There are several more lineside concrete workings (though...

    St. Helens central signal box

The pictures here seem to suggest my memory is correct: http://www.flickr.com/photos/robdaniels/6817627353/in/set-72157629176679149 But will hand over to The Planner's expertise :)

    St. Helens central signal box

I will try to see from the train tonight, but I think the area of control stops around Gerard's Bridge ground frame. I think the next signal is after Carr Mill and is WNsomething. As I say, I will try to check tonight but it is dark :) David

    Destination: Sinfin North?

Thanks very much - either of those possibilities sounds very plausible. I had searched a little on whether there was some sort of special tour to Sinfin - that explains why I hadn't found anything!

    Destination: Sinfin North?

Hi all, Just boarded the 1908 Liverpool train at Wigan NW to see the departures board listed a 19xx (1945 poss) to Sinfin North. Gather this must be a charter; does anyone know any more? Apologies if this should be in Special Workings. Thanks in advance David

    Railway themed streets?

Bellerophon Way, Haydock, St Helens. The Tesco in Haydock was built on the site of the Haydock Foundry, builder of several Evans locos, including Bellerophon.

    Ticket validity Liverpool-Ormskirk-Blackpool

No idea on the routing query, but: Just for reference, Garswood is the last stop your all zones saveaway is valid. A single from Garswood to Wigan is £2.40 IIRC. David

Showing train lengths on station information panels

Well, the Northern e-display board message wasn't a one off - it happened again this morning. I did notice that the outdoor on-platform screens don't function correctly while displaying the message though. Still some work to do there. Sadly, this meant the 0756 was short-formed again. I'd...

Showing train lengths on station information panels

Bit of a surprise but just arrived at St Helens Central to see that the (Northern) 7:56 was showing as 1 min late and "this train will be formed of 2 coaches instead of 4". First time I've ever seen this message here. --- old post above --- --- new post below --- Ps thankfully is a 156 not a...

    End of semaphores

Some relevant documents are here http://wwta2.networkrail.co.uk/browseDirectory.aspx?dir=%5CNetwork%20Code%5CNetwork%20Change%5CCompleted%20Proposals%5CLondon%20North%20Western%5CNorth%20West%5CNCG12011LNW504%20Prescot&pageid=2889&root= The docs say control is going to St Helens, which...

    Can Liverpool Lime Street expand?

John; sorry for the delay but your suggested explanation seems to tie in with the apparent evidence. Going into work this morning, I kept an eye out for the derailers and noticed that they seemed to be connected to some sort of control gear - your suggestion re: the interlocking seems very...

    Can Liverpool Lime Street expand?

Interesting - is this a new change application? I only ask as I can't remember a time when the sidings actually had intact points; I wasn't entirely sure of the practical value in having left the rest of the track there. In fact, don't the disconnected ends of track curiously have apparently...

    Can Liverpool Lime Street expand?

Just out of interest - to any signallers or others in the know - is platform capacity a significant issue at Lime St, or is the Edge Hill-Lime St capacity? I ask from the ignorance of a passenger; I notice that when we're often held in the cuttings outside Lime St, when we finally do enter...

Any news on the progress of Manchester - Chat Moss electrification ?

A few photos of the bridge works taken over the past couple of weeks at St Helens Central if anyone is interested. They've replaced the pedestrian bit with a smart new bridge, but unfortunately, it looks like they might be demolishing the now redundant stone support pillars. As a sidenote, I...

    Good Friday

I know this is a slight diversion - and just for the record I was very happy to see Northern running a normal weekday service today (particularly as otherwise, it would've been a rail-replacement bus just at the moment!), but... and I know I'm quoting quite selectively :) but I can't help...

    NRG Easements New Section E

Hmm - interesting - I guess this is a result of the current works*? * - said works incidentally allowed me to travel Huyton-Wigan non-stop via Parkside (?) Jct on Sunday, which was interesting - got a nice little snap of the disused Lowton station from train level :) However, I wonder what this...
