Destination: Sinfin North?

Hi all,

Just boarded the 1908 Liverpool train at Wigan NW to see the departures board listed a 19xx (1945 poss) to Sinfin North. Gather this must be a charter; does anyone know any more?

Apologies if this should be in Special Workings.

There is a charter train due at Wigan 1946-1949, which is a WCRC working from Carlisle to Crewe via Liverpool. The reference to Sinfin North is probably an error within the CIS, or perhaps they wanted to show it as going somewhere noone's heard of to stop people joining it in error.

Thanks very much - either of those possibilities sounds very plausible. I had searched a little on whether there was some sort of special tour to Sinfin - that explains why I hadn't found anything!

Or someone was just having some "fun" with the destination, considering it wasn't a public train. I know it happens on LUL (Central line stock having a destination of "Waterloo" for instance) for empty stock movements, etc. I assume similar things have been known to happen on NR.

I have sometimes seen ECS advertised to a specific signal number - possibly where a driver have to change ends on a shunting move.

Ironically a lot of those units ended up in Newport for scrapping.

I've seen Quainton Road displayed at Marylebone which I suspect may have been an ECS to Aylesbury Depot. But then it might have been a genuine special as Herts Railtours ran a couple of these a few years back. Where is Sinfin North anyway?

It's the station before Sinfin Central !
