Not sure they need a decker as a back up - more appropriate traction would be a tandem. Every time I see the coach on the Belles Express it is either empty or with one passenger on! BTW - There is also the driver!!!
Thanks all for the responses to my query - looks like I should be in for some Loco Hauled travel, and will probably look to travel First Class at that!
Cheers
Hi All:
I am travelling to Marrakech in October of this year for a week's holiday and planning to sample the railway travel in this country. Please can anyone advise the following:
Is it worth booking First Class - the prices seem dirt cheap?
Has anyone travelled out of Marrakech - any...
My rail atlas is from 1988 (5th Edition from S K Baker) - it does show the Airport as being a projected railway!
Incidentally, it was the first time I had gone to the Airport on a service train, previously it was on a Railtour many years ago
Last Monday night I stayed in Manchester to watch the United v Arsenal FA Cup Quarter Final, wrong result for me, but that's a different thread - so decided that instead of going straight back home in the morning, I would have a few hours around Manchester travelling on as many different classes...
After having just finished a Severn & Solent Ranger, my view is as follows:
1st - SWT 158/159 - clean bright interior
2nd - ATW 158 - comfortable, but 820 was certainly in need of a deep clean
3rd - FGW 158 - Dull inside and removal of tables makes them feel less airy
And so to day 3 of my FoSS
The first question was, did I have a replacement hat for the day? The answer was “yes” - not sure whether it was mine or not but it was in the cupboard and available!
I had various possible moves planned for the day, ranging from one of the HST’s via Weston-S-M...
And so to Day 2 of my FoSS.
Firstly, two corrections - as pointed out by Techniquest it was not 43019 in service on Monday, it was of course 43029, perhaps typing on my phone is not my forte, and, unless I am Doctor Who, the bus left Gloucester at 1855 (thanks to my son for pointing out this...
As you can possibly tell from my user name most of my bashing was done in the 80s following peaks, but for the last three years I have done a Freedom of Severn and Solent in January/February - one of the best value rovers around, especially if you are into classic traction - well a HST is...
1M10 was indeed a hellfire overnight - did this many times in the 80's on a ALR. Ironically, on a Monday morning it tended to run as 0019 Derby-St. Pancras and arrived at the blocks just before 4am. The move off 1M10, was to bale at Bedford for 1F06 - 0427 St.Pancras-Derby Parcels that also...
