I thought they were being backed by Alstom, who are/were holding the 6x (?) remaining ex Avanti 221s... presumably if the application is rejected Alstom would release them back to Beacon, who in turn can lease them to Cross Country (if their offer is acceptable)
I believe that was one excuse that was hinted at... but the 325s have never exactly been heavily worked. The motor carriages receiver fairly heavy repairs/work during 2008/2009... during the period where 325s were being almost exclusively hauled by class 87s (with the 325s in 3 car sets).
There...
But Number of units/locos/carriages the operators can order and lease has been specified/restricted by the SRA/DfT... so not truly privatised. Closest we get is the OAOs like HT, GC and Lumo
So what's needed now, in my head anyway, is for a 99 to haul a full out and back service from Felixstowe on 66 timings... before a move to any 99 timings
Difference being that when Veola ceased trading, it's assets & contracts were split between Europorte (french ops) and VFLI (belgian & dutch ops), a SNCF subsidiary... those 77s went to VFLI and worked for several years
Worth remembering that while the techs at Derby have been maintaining the 222s, they'll also have been completing training on the 810s and how to maintain them, and then constant refreshers given the ongoing delays that had been face with the introduction of the 810s up till December started...
Again, the likes of a ROSCO like Beacon (others are available) operate across Europe... so have a wider range of clients, a farther reach than just within the UK.
But I grant you, it would leave ROG in a poor position given they've already started offleasing 37s back to EP... I think I saw...
Could result in the 93s being marketed to operators in Europe if no use in the UK, or they sell them to another company/ROSCO ie. Beacon Rail.
Remember they are not directly owned by ROG
I would need to check my reference books to verify, but from memory I think there was a change in requirements at the FOC/change in ownership at FOC. But memory could be playing tricks with me
Kind of like the 9 car class 222 Meridians ordered for STP to Leeds services, then once delivered...
I have a sneaking suspicion/theory... you've got land recovery wanting their own fleet, whether being an operator in their own right is another question, but what if GB are holding their 60s as a trump card to secure a contract with LR like EWS/DB had with medip rail whil they had their similar...
You're assuming ofcourse that Land Recovery want to be an operator themselves. Could be as simple as wanting their own assets... like Mendip Rail used to, and simply hiring drivers from an external company/FOC
I have to wonder whether Accurascale could possibly be considering the SITT (Snow and Ice Treatment Train) sets instead of the RHTT sets... again, reading into comments from the announcement about stuff for the 73/9s to haul. The SITT wagons/modules haven't been modelled RTR AFAIK...
Maybe, but if the same operator, on the same service, with the same load and traction, is failing or blocking the network with the same issue in the same place... I'd agree that DRS need to look to do something, or NR need to ask for something to happen. It's not a late evening service affecting...
The turbostat was a development/evolution of the class165/166 product
While the 357/375/377 was a completely new product.
A turbostar and electrostar have different length & width carriages...
At a guess, it's down to how the designs originated and evolved.
