Yes, I'm sure it wouldn't! I'll try and take some photos next time.
Sorry, HowardGWR for confusion - assumed the reference to Newport would have clarified. I see the Quail map uses SWM 2; original railway in 1850s was of course the South Wales Railway.
I noticed these when travelling on a westbound Ebbw Vale to Cardiff train on Monday morning, and they seemed to be on just that side. Some piling must have taken place at the end of the last week judging by the number of complaints about overnight noise in the Duffryn area of Newport in a South...
The second link gives the opportunity to read the National Transport Finance Plan 2015, an interesting document which gives some detail about the costs of individual plans and information about timescales.
I've re-read this over the weekend, in particular the rail and Metro proposals...
Noticed quite a long run of piles actually in place for electrification alongside the up line between Bishton Crossing and Llanwern West Junction, up to milepost 155m60ch travelling Bristol to Newport earlier today. Didn't notice them alongside the up lines or reliefs going out earlier. There...
Sounds like a excellent idea - in fact in a posting on a similar thread I made the same point about three years ago - salient points below:
"I've also wondered whether an half hourly service to Cardiff with alternating trains reversing at Newport might be less difficult than running to a...
Yes, you would think it would make financial sense, at least to make passive provision.
The article also mentions the current redoubling of the Ebbw Vale line. There is the huge additional cost of installing the 10 miles of parallel track, signalling and a second platform at two stations...
Mechanical Lift out of order 'due to essential maintenance' when I tried to use it this morning!
Noticed today that since my most recent trip (15.6.15) a number of gradient boards have been erected, the last one showing a gradient of 1 in 50 easing to 1 in 568 (if I recall correctly) at the...
I think 40 122 may be at the upper end of the exchange sidings (ref Waunllydd North on the timetable) and a large building in the other photograph resembles the hotel now called 'Ambala' which is quite close to Ebbw Vale Parkway. So, dependent on where you were on the train you might have an...
Evidence of sleepers laid out at western end of Filton Triangle depot when I passed from Bristol towards Cardiff earlier this afternoon. Also, there were a few piles deposited alongside westbound track between Patchway Tunnel and Pilning, which looked like some I'd seen around Reading last...
Perhaps D78s might be suitable for consideration for Ebbw Vale - Newport services when the current redoubling and capacity enhancement project is complete? The speed of the units for the short distance from Gaer Junction to Newport station should not be much of an issue.
Thanks for confirmation and agree that the situation is much changed. The odd thing is that the next overbridge up the line adjacent to the site of the previous Rogerstone station (which also spans the parallel A467 dual carriageway) appears to have sufficient clearance for two tracks...
I seem to recall that there was a suggestion that the current enhancement works would provide capacity for up to three trains an hour. I'm not sure, however, whether the remaining single track section from Park North Junction to Risca South Junction would still be a constraint though for this...
Cwm does seem to be an omission as trains rush through after leaving Ebbw Vale Parkway! However, there is apparently some work ongoing to develop business cases for Abertillery and Crumlin and possibly others, as part of Cardiff Capital Metro.
I'm not sure. There would be sufficient space for another track and platform, though none of the plans I've seen showed this and only one is being built at present. Happy to be corrected on this.
At the NR drop in session in Ebbw Vale last November, I was advised that tracklaying was for...
Further to last posting, some pictures from a visit today (25.4.15)
Travelling northwards to end of line -
Just north of Ebbw Vale Parkway:
Looking south at former Dyffryn sidings:
Near site of former Tyllwyn Halt and end of original double track section:
At Ebbw Vale Town station...
The most prominent landmark in the area, the Works Offices, are adjacent to the forthcoming Town station - a substantial red brick building with clock tower which links to the Gwent Archive building. Unfortunately, I can't give you a road number of the parallel road but it is a new A road and...
Tracklaying continues and here are some photographs taken in the last week or so.
Looking north, the railway closely follows the road line (also of relatively new construction). I would guess that this is close to the former Tyllwyn Halt.
Looking south towards the road bridge close...
Plenty of evidence earlier today of tracklaying on the Ebbw Vale extension. It's not continuous yet as there seem to be more than one location where drainage is being excavated. One of these is just north of Ebbw Vale Parkway, where the buffer stop has been moved nearer the station for the...
Network Rail held a residents drop in session at the Works adjacent to the new terminus station in late November 2014. Contractors Buckingham Group were to be starting in December. There is evidence of preparation for trackbed and site offices just north of Ebbw Vale Parkway station.Track...
Early trains very full...standing passengers on 9.35 ex Ebbw Vale service from Crosskeys at least! What a pity someone could not have authorised a 153 or 150 in addition to the normal 2 car On first full day of normal services - not a good start in public relations.
Especially when a Class 150...
