Why aren't the platforms at UK railway stations renumbered?

I'm a little vexed that they are going to renumber the platforms at Huddersfield when the remodeling gets done. No perceptible need.

    Special Offers Discussion

Just bought some Brighouse to Man Vic and Man Vic to Stoke-on-Trent returns and the itinerary has the section between Vic and Pic as "unknown operator" Does this mean I have to walk between the two?

    Passengers thanking Drivers

I always thank the guard, either verbally or with a wave if at a different door, and also the driver if I see them - but this quite rare. This thread, however, has got me thinking, especially the drivers who say they appreciate these rare acknowledgements. Next time I travel (probably Friday...

Network Rail / Grand Central / Northern and the ongoing waiting shelter hole at Wakefield Kirkgate!

Coming from or going to Huddersfield, putting on a train to Kirkgate seems a little more pressing than the need for a shelter.

    Mondegreens (misheard lyrics)

Harold Melvin "The love I lost, was a seagull" (sweet love) Also bird related, Bowie sang that Ziggy was "Making love with his Eagle" (Ego) Sh***y AM radio had a lot to answer for. I genuinely heard the Beat singing about the "N***** in the Bathroom"

    The Midnight Train...?

More accurately (but maybe less interesting) The song was originally written as Midnight Train to Houston It was changed to Georgia when Thelma Houston was due to record it.

    Trivia: Common railway related fallacies

There seems to be a massive fallacy, even on here, that the "quiet" coach is a "silent" coach.

    Special Offers Discussion

Especially with selfish folk buying multiple tickets for journeys, they are not going to use, as mentioned above.

Remodelling your local station or mainline terminus

Huddersfield. The rail plans seem sorted out now but along side these I would:- Purchase and convert the disused warehouse into a bus station accessible from both sides of the ring road. ALL bus services to use this, plus a new fleet of electric micro-buses to give access around the town...

South Pennine Day Ranger- Manchester Stations Validity Query

On the GB Rail Rover guide, Deansgate is listed as a valid station

Transpennine Route Upgrade and Electrification updates

A second entrance to Huddersfield Station would improve things no end. From the car park off Fitzwilliam Street into the new platform 6. Make it the taxi rank entrance and clear St George's Square. Doesn't shave a single second off train times though.

    MetroTrain revisited

I know it's schematic but having Manchester Airport to the North East of Piccadilly and Liverpool South/South/East of Victoria just hurts my eyes.

One of three hourly London to Manchester services to go via Birmingham

Imaginative in as much as some services are not trans pennine and others are not express.

One of three hourly London to Manchester services to go via Birmingham

Just rebrand TPE as Inter City North. Sounds better already. (and give the stoppers back to Northern which could also be rebranded as Network North)

Blackpool North: The most unfriendly station in the country?

The problem you get is that new staff members "fit in" with the way things are done. They follow the lead of the existing staff. It happens in all industries. Think about medical or dental reception staff. The dragon on the desk will have been "taught" by the previous dragon how to deal with...

    Horbury Bridge Disused Rail Bridge

I believe Horbury Bridge will come under Wakefield Council, not Kirklees.

    Northern Pacer Withdrawals - Info?

I'm sure you are right but the WYPTE heritage of the centres have always made me think fondly of them. It would fit neatly for one to remain in West Yorkshire especially so close to Platform 2, still the scene of its usage.

    Northern Pacer Withdrawals - Info?

Platform 1, the charity at Huddersfield has been selected to receive a pacer carriage upon decommission. I hope its a 144 centre.
