Climate adaptation challenges facing a railway built for a very different world?

Presumably this will end up with the rails being tensioned for higher routine temperatures.

Might the Whitehaven tunnel issues result in closure? Could Whitehaven be brought back into use? And other speculation on this issue...

If the roadmap is known, pressure can be applied to locate the said tree. It would also help to know if there is any thing else holding it up at the moment.

Might the Whitehaven tunnel issues result in closure? Could Whitehaven be brought back into use? And other speculation on this issue...

We could do with the Environment agency and NR coming out with a clear roadmap of how the reopening will be progressed. It all seems a bit wishy washy at the moment.

    Good, that's sensible.

    Lewes derailment - Travel advice

They should surely allow passengers to travel via St Leonards and Tunbridge Wells !

Preston Station - really poor and needs urgent improvement

I've been dropped off at that entrance on occasion, so it's quite useful from that point of view. If you look at Darlington, the new concourse is now on the opposite side to the town centre, so the East side at Preston is far less 'remote' by comparison. If this were to become the main...

Preston Station - really poor and needs urgent improvement

I don't think Sheffield station is "out of tune with modern needs" by any stretch of the imagination. It has a good concourse with good facilities, wide, well covered platforms with good facilities. About the only thing that could be doing with being a bit bigger is the footbridge. Preston...

16-17 Savers will no longer expire at 18th birthdays

Fingers crossed ! We pay a lot for the railway as it is. Any additional funding to make it more financially accessible would be relatively small - afterall, there's little political capital in funding a "rich man's toy" to quote a previous transport secretary.

That's no where near the station.

Preston Station - really poor and needs urgent improvement

You can get a train undercover, and not in a dingy underground car park. Preston is fine but the retail offer needs improving. 1786429663 There isn't a Tesco anywhere near Lancaster station that I've ever seen.

Preston Station - really poor and needs urgent improvement

I quite like Preston from an architectural point of view, however some of the facilities aren't the best. Early closure of buffets is endemic across the network. That's why a station pub like the Tite & Locke is so handy - although these usually seem to have independant access from the...

Is 'South Central' a better name than 'Southern'?

We wouldn't bother with that. Just: The Network express to Brighton.... or The Hastings service via Haywards Heath....

Is 'South Central' a better name than 'Southern'?

Let's just bring back Network SouthEast and have done with it.

Is 'South Central' a better name than 'Southern'?

I do think they should add the "Chatham" back into South Eastern Railway - for accuracy.

Is 'South Central' a better name than 'Southern'?

South central is logical because its the middle bit of the Southern Region. To call it "Southern" is a bit confusing because it's all Southern.

Wheelchair passengers should be able to travel for free

Thanks, that's interesting. So if I'm understanding correctly, it's like our old persons bus pass.
