Where will the Chiltern Mark 3 sets and Class 68s be deployed after they are replaced? Perhaps replacing the Class 222s at EMR?

Has anyone actually looked at the state of the Mk3s? They're basically only fit for Scrap unless someone wants to spend LOTS of money!

Class 810 for East Midlands Railway Construction/Introduction Updates

Is this accurate or looking inside a test unit ?

Class 701 'Aventra' trains for South Western Railway: progress updates

The Southern PIS is down to either an STP PIS Code or the Driver inputting their current PIS Code again, but skipping the required stops. Its not flexible atm.

Great Northern Fleet - 379s introduction

Its quite the recommissioning works to be fair to the people working on them at Hornsey. Seems the worst ones were left til last, which makes sense, so these take longer to recommission. Plus there is a general parts storage to contend with!

    Driver Reminder Appliance (DRA) question

It gets slightly interesting when you deal with ETCS onboard and Locos without DRA and the FoC/OTMs methods for Mitigating against SAS Spads.

Class 810 for East Midlands Railway Construction/Introduction Updates

Maybe they're not opening it up as quickly as a 222, as you know, testing.

Chiltern MK5s Starting 2026 (non speculative updates thread)

Aye, as they need specific routing at New Cross Gate. Bit like why TL services that go through the Core get a 9 headcode, as they have to be routed a certain way. 1755812036 Because 7 tends to still be Freight Trains AFAIK.

Chiltern MK5s Starting 2026 (non speculative updates thread)

    1. The first digit is the train class category. 0 represents a light engine movement, or locomotive convoy. An example of a light locomotive convoy headcode could be 0V60, because the first digit is a zero. 1 represents an express train / fast train. A 1 followed by a Q will often represent a...

Proposed new Channel Tunnel services discussion

Is there any reason Virgin decided against Double Decker sets? Is there any of the route they wouldn't be possible?

SWR Class 458 to be retained

It can do but usually the secondary suspension is kept pumped up by the compressors, so it shouldn't drop that dramatically to foul a loading gauge. Isolate secondary suspension could cause a problem. Seems like there's some gauging work to do on the SW to make it less restrictive then!

SWR Class 458 to be retained

Sorry but how on earth can an EMU, cleared for a route, not be cleared to carry passengers on it?

Issues with Great Northern services out of Moorgate

Because it's not as simple as "just add ATO"... The Train wasn't built with it for starters!

Why are Class 700s considered unpopular?

They have a contract to provide 'X amount of serviceable units a day', so probably!

Why are Class 700s considered unpopular?

700s are a balance between an Urban and Suburban Train. What they lack, in my opinion, are tray tables (on the early build units) and plugs at all seats. This was a DfT spec, without real future planning for a massive push on mobile ticketing, for example. I'd argue a 345 has a more...

Braking techniques on different types of rolling stock?
