There is several interesting (maybe not current) instuctional videos about SPAD's on Youtube:
This one is about SPAD indicators at station platforms
There is another one on Youtube about braking and inadvertent SPAD's under difficult railhead conditions.
My experience has been with several morning trains from Oxford-Paddington and the evening train from Paddington to Worcester Shrub Hill.
Luckily with the latter, a lot of people get off at Maidenhead so the crowding subsides.
Substituted with a 180.
Is there some ongoing issue with FGW HST's losing air reservoir pressure? There have been recent substitutions of some HST services out of Paddington with a lesser train. On train staff have hinted about some issue and the need to re-manufacture some equipment.
Yeah, the working HST and carriages was uncoupled leaving one carriage behind. Thats what I saw when I went by.
I am reminded of Thomas the Tank engine when the fat controller tells the locos off and says "You used to be a really useful engine"
So that 3+ hours it was probably sitting around Slough/Burnham for waiting to have the rear power car uncoupled, feel sorry for those passengers.
Would the train have come to a gradual stop as the air leaked out or would the brakes have snapped on the same as an emergency stop?
Does anyone know what was going on with the HST going west out of slough this evening at around 18:00 this evening. When my train went past it had been uncoupled at one of the coaches and several people in orange suits were milling around it ? Was causing knock on delays as trains were being...
I read an article I think it was in Rail magazine where the Chief Mechanical Engineer weighed up whether to keep the Class 25's or 31's. He opted to keep the 31's as he decided there were some issues on the 25's (including something to do with the brake rigging) that would be more costly to put...
What does a man waving a black and white chequered flag mean? I saw this at Maidenhead last week, the network rail man was waving the flag at an approaching HST.
There was some interesting discussion in this thread about the 50's and their lives on the GWML.
This made interesting reading and I remember reading in David Clough's book about the 50's that when new they had a tractive effort dial and to get the best results for a standing start the drivers...
It seems that the initial faults with these locos doesn't get fully resolved so that the same problem keeps causing repeat failures. If we don't include normal wear and tear issues then surely the regular inspections will allow them to anticipate faults as these locos should be a known quantity...
We are aware of an issue with emails from the Forum to Microsoft-based email accounts (hotmail/outlook/live.com email addresses). This is being looked into currently, thanks for your patience meanwhile.
