There was some interesting discussion in this thread about the 50's and their lives on the GWML.

This made interesting reading and I remember reading in David Clough's book about the 50's that when new they had a tractive effort dial and to get the best results for a standing start the drivers would put the power handle to full power and then slowly dial up the tractive effort control as it offered a more graduated control of power. I think he also indicates that on the other hand some of the complaints were due to some drivers trying to fight the sophisticated electronics.

I wondered if anyone could recommend any in-cab videos of Class 50's journeys out of Paddington towards Reading.

Also is there a good source of timings for the 50's from Paddington->Maidenhead->Reading ?
