Aside from how selfish and ignorant your fellow passengers seem to be, I'd feel disappointed if the Staff didn't instruct them to keep the noise down during the night.
Sadly 158s have stopped appearing on the "Lancashire Triangle" services for a few years.
Come to think of it, I'm quite certain 158s are no longer booked to work anything through Preston these days.
I've done Inverness to London Kings Cross once or twice for free in First Class back in the days of East Coast rewards.
Another origin to destination memorable journey I've done is on 2x221s I'm guessing maybe around the year 2005. Edinburgh to London Euston via Carstairs, Glasgow Central...
I completely agree with you in regards to Lumo's ongoing problem with them not being able to show reservations properly on their West Coast trains. I think they should make their trains unreservable until they've sorted it out and also have at least one carriage completely unreserved.
To insist...
Regardless of the layout of the OP's eticket, I would have naively expected the fact it states Ticket Type- Anytime Day Return Standard was self explanatory.
After all, had it indeed been train specific, it would have been Advance.
I'm never going to try to claim that the UK Train Ticket...
Wooah that really is unforgivably bad Customer Service in my opinion.
Given LNER have taken so long to rectify such a simple to fix (in theory) problem, I feel they should be doing so much more than even a nice goodwill gesture/replace the days you lost.
As I said in my earlier post, LNER MD...
I appreciate the OP has been in contact with LNER, but I feel any reprint should be obtained from LNER as they're the company who sold the OP their original ticket.
I think in terms of compensation from LNER they should as a minimum offer the OP replacement days [or maybe more as a good will...
Looking at the OP's 1S75 17:04 Preston to Edinburgh on Saturday 29th on Trust delay attribution is as follows:
5 at Preston- Brake/Wheels issue (Train fault?)
4 Preston- Garstang- following late 1S74
17 Garstang to Lancaster- Blanket Speed Restriction (Weather?)
then
9 Tebay-Penrith/6...
Looking on Realtime Trains, it seems as if the two late running Avanti trains 1S76 (16:41 departure from Preston to Glasgow Central) and 9S77 16:53 departure from Preston to Glasgow Central) both managed to run between Preston and Carstairs South Junction as fast as each other, but the TPE 1S74...
A quick look on the LNER website shows "Signature" northbound on Weekdays and the "Dish" southbound on Saturdays.

Maybe try to contact LNER beforehand to see what is likely to be offered between York and Newcastle?
I suppose you could book the Signature train (if you're not bothered about timings) and hope for the best with them both being the same price.
I suspect you're right that they wouldn't offer...
