No. The ideal solution would be a for light rail fast tram type systems as they have in some parts of Germany which can go out in the road where trackbeds have been built upon.

I think White Van Man has hit the nail on the head. It's probably down to timing points. As long as you are rigth time off those timing points there is a possibility that you may be early or late inbetween.

I think you have a wonderful system in Switzerland - big advantage is that there are more staff per passenger and better track layouts. Big mistakes by the old B.R. led to a lot of track rationalisation particularly single lead junctions - big mistake. I'm always puzzled - in Switzerland...

I doubt whether many resort to that - only have to get caught once by a plain clothes inspector and that's your job gone. On LT we used to give the thumbs down to other drivers or pat the top of our heads to indicate an inspector up the road. On the RM's you'd turn round and do the same...

They're not all on that rate - there are various grades and they ofteen work 12 hour shifts. Very responsible job and not one that I would relish. Drivers may curse signalmen but like most jobs - unless you've done it you can't really comment.
