    Lhd/rhd

Puzzles me. We drive on the left here unless we have bi-directional working and the French do too surprisingly but their Metros run on the right. The Germans run on the right but in Austria they drive on our side the left(although the driver's controls are on the right), unless they use the...

    Enviro Car

Saw this on C4 news right after they had a go at SWT for the fare rises :- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1vPk-l2k1-U Notice the registration and the reaction of the coach driver.

    What we've lost !!!

No. The ideal solution would be a for light rail fast tram type systems as they have in some parts of Germany which can go out in the road where trackbeds have been built upon.

    And now... it's: Part 7 - Dawlish I (50 p.)

Many thanks for that Roni - I'll go off and experiment.

Early Bus drivers to consider walkout

I think White Van Man has hit the nail on the head. It's probably down to timing points. As long as you are rigth time off those timing points there is a possibility that you may be early or late inbetween.

    Smelly Stations

Is that Bowyers Pies? If so - that's what Poole used to smell like - Millers Pies - dog food smell.

    (Rail)Urban Myths

I think you have a wonderful system in Switzerland - big advantage is that there are more staff per passenger and better track layouts. Big mistakes by the old B.R. led to a lot of track rationalisation particularly single lead junctions - big mistake. I'm always puzzled - in Switzerland...

    Driver find for crossing offence

About time too. At last the courts are waking up to the danger. With the amount of trips I've been doing lately on teh Lymmy Branch I've been thinking of our union's call for all crossings to be replaced by bridges or underpases. Not a lot of room for that at Lymington.

    What we've lost !!!

Better have bloody windows we can see out of! Mind you I'll probably be retired or dead by then.

    Big Bone

Just found this picture - don't know if it made it into production. Anybody seen one? Adtranz Tiger on show 10 years ago

Early Bus drivers to consider walkout

I doubt whether many resort to that - only have to get caught once by a plain clothes inspector and that's your job gone. On LT we used to give the thumbs down to other drivers or pat the top of our heads to indicate an inspector up the road. On the RM's you'd turn round and do the same...

    Passengers hit by pints failure

They're not all on that rate - there are various grades and they ofteen work 12 hour shifts. Very responsible job and not one that I would relish. Drivers may curse signalmen but like most jobs - unless you've done it you can't really comment.

    What we've lost !!!

I'm not a big fan of politicians - they're mostly all liars and out for themselves whether they are communist ASLEF leaders or fascists (amounts to the same really - they're all dictators). Paddy Ashdown - the best leader the Liberals had did protest strongly to Railtrack in about 2000 when...

    And now... it's: Part 7 - Dawlish I (50 p.)

Hi Roni, what camera settings did you use for those night pictures? I'd like to take some City pictures like that on holiday in just over a week's time.

    What we've lost !!!

159's are beautiful. So comfortable you doze off to sleep as the engine purrs away in the background. (That is - until the AWS wakes you up ) ......JOKE! I mean the passenger saloon of course ;)

    What we've lost !!!

Finally found that leaflet I was on about - SWT's proposals for the West Country printed in 1999/2000. It runs to 10 pages on both sides but I've given you the jist of it. Why Stagecoach's bid for the new South West Trains franchise will give the West Country the best railway choice into...

    And now... it's: Part 7 - Dawlish I (50 p.)

Those shots are truly stunning - unbelievable. :wav: Some of them look like beautifully done paintings. I'm sure that the companies would be interested in using them in their publicity and railway magazines over here would love them. I can only aspire to take a photo 1/10th as good as...
