    Reading - Basingstoke stoppers

It’s nice to see some rare collaborative thinking. I’d be interested to hear of any other times that TOCs have run services for another operator at short notice. I can’t see GWR running additional services along the Netley line for example (although I don’t think they have many route retention...

    Reading - Basingstoke stoppers

Okay thank you. Is this a common thing? As in TOCs covering other TOCs services?

    Reading - Basingstoke stoppers

I noticed last night that there was a Reading - Basingstoke stopping service operated by SWR? https://www.realtimetrains.co.uk/service/gb-nr:34713/2025-12-02/detailed Is this an error with the data feed or are SWR now operating some stopping services between Reading and Basingstoke?

Class 701 'Aventra' trains for South Western Railway: progress updates

Can anyone advise whether there a thread regarding the SWR T/T change (which I believe is June 2027) and if not, whether it would be best placed in the speculative sub thread?

    Are wheelflats impossible to prevent?

Note to Mods: if you feel this is better placed in the speculative discussion area, feel free to move it. I notice that SWR are short of diesel units again, and my understanding is that this is due to several units suffering wheel flats due to leaf fall. I see regular sarcastic comments from...

SWR outgoing Metro fleet withdrawals (complete)

I believe it’ll be 5711 and 5728 if my source is correct.

Trivia: Shortest Class 1 and Longest Class 2 & Class 3 or 5 headcode journeys

As has been said, there are other shorter class 1 services, the Lymington branch runs as 1Jxx, 10 minutes each way and just over 5.5 miles.

Definitely 455s, and operated by ROG too.

Tomorrow but to Litchurch Lane, Derby is the last thing I saw.

Class 701 'Aventra' trains for South Western Railway: progress updates

I’ve heard there are issues with the Farnham ending diagram? Something to do with there being no one to dispatch the train ECS into the shed? Can anyone confirm?

Class 701 'Aventra' trains for South Western Railway: progress updates

At the risk of derailing this thread, all of the SWR fleet can be remotely monitored at any time in detail, as can the FFCCTV and internal CCTV.

    GWR Class 165/166 Turbo Diagrams

This time a VSTP move from Reading to Guildford via Woking. Oddly running as a 5Q rather than the 5Z that it ran as last time. https://www.realtimetrains.co.uk/service/gb-nr:27365/2025-11-09/detailed

Don’t Electrostars have bells? Or are they electronic bells?

Class 701 'Aventra' trains for South Western Railway: progress updates

That’s not strictly true, as the last two suburban arrivals and first two departures are both Waterloo night jobs, although 5F02/2F02 stock is currently booked a 5 444 which I believe goes onto 1W91 (although that bit of inter working may have changed), but I agree with you that until a...

Class 701 'Aventra' trains for South Western Railway: progress updates

Not quite that simple, you’d need to redesign the unit and crewing diagrams to accommodate where the units berth. You’d have to start putting the Desiros into the sidings and only Guildford crews sign the sidings. Also doesn’t help that a unit self prep on a 701 is close to an hour, where as an...

SWR Exeter/Salisbury Sprinters stopping at Clapham Junction

I’ve just looked at RTT and yep you’re correct. In the up direction though the Salisbury stoppers don’t appear to call at Clapham regularly

SWR Exeter/Salisbury Sprinters stopping at Clapham Junction

I thought that generally the xx20 (Exeter / Yeovil) were the only diesels to call at Clapham, with the Salisbury stoppers first stop Woking.

Well I count this as laying down the gauntlet to any SWR controllers that might happen to read this forum then!

What are the chances of on the day alterations putting a 455 to Basingstoke or Haslemere? I assume it’s a regular occurrence where both members of crew sign 455 stock?

    ‘Congestion on the line’

If that’s true (and I’m not saying you’re lying, but sometimes there’s deeper issues like union agreements or other technicalities) then that’s really really poor.
