    FGW Train Planner

No just a degree of common sense is needed ;) Planner has probably been in the industry longer than me but many people with very good qualifications are unable to understand the job and some with just a bit of real world knowledge have clicked and found it an enjoyable challenge. Anyway...

RMT vote 4 to 1 to strike over NR pay

Hey some of us try to prevent any heads being banged... Indeed, we all need a big disruptive event now and then :D

RMT vote 4 to 1 to strike over NR pay

However me and I'm sure plenty of other planners have just banged their heads very loudly on the desk...

Favourite bit of your railway job

Knowing that I took on a mainly thankless task for the most part and (usually!) gave my very best to try and make the timetable work a little bit better. Hopefully doing something to improve the workload for those in signal boxes, control centres, on the platform, in the cabs of trains, those...

Alliance Rail - East Coast Luxury Proposals

Certain open access operators can often think otherwise...

    Uses for redundant Class 67s.

Back in yonder a couple of 67's were being used to cover Engineering haulage work in Doncaster area. (Think most of the 66's were being used elsewhere) When it came to discussing said train using a 67 there was a bit of a hesitation from the DBS representative about it hauling just 10 autohoppers...

Single Container Wagon at Milton Keynes Today

Quite, again because the railway incidents are so public it puts the event under huge scrutiny. Imagine if we reported every lorry/car breakdown in the same context! In a previous life before the railways I worked for a large container shipping company. We had regular issues with the lorry...

    Manchester - Liverpool Electrification

Nope, will have an adverse impact on Crossrail too as it's heading there afterwards.

Creation of class 230 DEMUs from ex-LU D78s by Vivarail

It's not perfect by any means but I applaud to blue sky thinking.

    Manchester - Liverpool Electrification

Yes thankfully no injuries reported, just an expensive amount of kit damaged.

0837 Bletchley TMD to Brighton (empty coaching stock movement)

East Croydon-MK service is (or used to be) timed as a 321 from Watford to MK.

High Output Ballast Cleaner to arrive on Greater Anglia in the New Year

Yep, but if everything went smoothly then the press/public would have no one to complain about. Must have those hysterical/whinging stories you see!

Crossrail replacement of Class 317, 321 and 360 fleets?

It would also mean the south gets an old cast off train. Which as we know is not physically possible, the south only ever gets gleaming new trains not museum relics....

Future locomotives / multiple units for the national collection

1x Class 142 As a lesson from history that shall never be repeated... There will have to be a disclaimer when entering the exhibit area containing the 142 stating that the NRM take no responsibility for any fainting or shock that occurs upon viewing such a terrible piece of railway heritage.

Best and worst jobs on the roster

Indeed, the only reason is because Tring has the space to do so. Saying that though people do seem to appear out of nowhere to the station. Same can't be said for Cheddington... Can't speak for Kings Langley/Apsley but my local 2 Hemel and Berkhamsted definitely do need 3/4 per hour...

Chiltern wanting to get hold of new stock

Don't worry when the route is electrified everyone will want an AC class 444 because that solves everything...

    87002

"Rescue" driver might not have signed all the way to London. Then the DBS driver may not sign 87's? Not sure what the reason was but probably easier to stick with the planned traction and drivers if they were available.

    87002

Yep, 90028 with traction motor issues.

Hitachi to relocate rail division to the UK

I imagine that if they are serious about competing long term for European business then it's a smart move to relocate. Reminds me of how Japanese motorsport companies always suffered the same when trying to compete outside the domestic market. When they relocated or set up European bases it...
