    8 carriage trains

I thought that the majority of non-lengthened platforms were due to sheer impracticality rather than cost (Feltham for instance)?

Oyster fares - Canary Wharf to Richmond

You can manually add a via step in to a journey plan if you know which route/station you'd need to avoid z1 but yeah, it's disappointing that the 1-click function still doesn't work.

Bedford Midlands inclusion on the East West rail link

On the subject of a "comprehensive network with coordinated connections", if you haven't already done so you should read the Network Rail: Improving Connectivity consultation document that was published a few weeks ago. It's fascinating reading and cause for cautious optimism that end-to-end...

    8 carriage trains

There's an extensive programme of platform lengthening underway for SWT metro services, with the intention being that everything should be capable of taking a 200m train (using ASDO [Automated Selective Door Opening] where lengthening is completely impractical). It's not an overnight job though...

    New S7 Underground stock

Just looking at the S8 & S7 google spreadsheet, presumably we're very near the point where all of the S8 mods are completed which should mean that the 3 S7+1 units can be broken up and enter service on the correct lines, along with the 3 other S7 units missing their M2D cars?

"No new DMU orders in CP5"

Norwich to Birmingham via Leicester maybe?

    HS2 in the press

No, it just means that the CC trains will travel at higher speeds for longer from day one, and the money that would've been spent building the WCML connection at Lichfield will be saved. CC trains will run via HS2 when phase 1 is complete to Liverpool, Manchester and Glasgow (and maybe Edinburgh).

Fall of masonry at Mile End

Like everything when TfL/LUL say one thing and the RMT say another, I suspect that the truth is somewhere in the middle!

    HS2 in the press

Last time I checked Liverpool was getting HS2 trains. Just not captive 400m ones. There'll be 2tph via HS2 (as opposed to the 1tph VT currently serving Liverpool). I'm not sure what the problem is.

    Detailed Maps of the Tube

Actually the Crossrail 1 route is on the carto metro maps now as dotted lines (they were quite pale previously but it looks like the map has been updated in the last couple of days).

Clapham Junction to Portsmouth would you choose SWT or Southern?

I'd take SWT simply because it's faster. That said I don't know whether all of the SWT Portsmouth services call at CLJ. There's also no "special" first class service (food/drink); the SWT 444s have reclining seats but that's about the extent of what you get.

Cascading: What train will go where after electrification?

Why would a long distance TOC run electrified services in a mix of long and short formations though? Surely they'd just standardise on 9x26m or 10x23m and just run them at that length all of the time, since the costs of running electric sets are far lower than diesel?

"No new DMU orders in CP5"

It seems to me like an unintended but inevitable consequence of the ROSCO-led "marketplace" for rolling stock. Imagine you're working for a ROSCO. You're putting together the financial appraisal for the financing of a new DMU order. You need to make a long term profit after you've adjusted for...

    Paddington platform 13 & 14

Terminating from which direction? Once the SSL resignalling is done the nominal service pattern will be 16tph Hammersmith-Baker St (8tph H&C, 8tph Circle). Are you suggesting a Hammersmith-Paddington shuttle to bolster the western arm? that would be the only viable option but it's not hugely...

    Severn Tunnel/Golden Valley Redoubling

I guess that's the crux of the argument. The Welsh Assembly will be saying that the relief lines should be wired with the mains because the intercity electric trains will use them during main line track possessions and other times of disruption. The Department for Transport will be saying that...

    Paddington platform 13 & 14

According to the CP5 enhancements delivery plan, platforms 12 & 13 at Paddington are going to be combined in to a 260m platform (10-car IEP capable) and the current platform 14 extended to 240m. (Page 95) Not sure how that impacts on the original point of the thread, but it's interesting...

    Severn Tunnel/Golden Valley Redoubling

Full article: http://www.globalrailnews.com/2011/04/28/electrification-delivering-the-transformation/ Found via: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/21st-century_modernisation_of_the_Great_Western_Main_Line As far as timetable goes, electrification to Bristol is due in 2016 and Cardiff in 2017, so...

    High Speed UK?

From what I can tell the end game of HSUK's plan is basically the same as HS2 (mix of compatible and captive train sets) but they want a different alignment via Leicester with no West Coast route, and reckon that it's doable within existing city centre stations in Birmingham (New Street)...

Creation of class 230 DEMUs from ex-LU D78s by Vivarail

Well, that and finding a DVT for the other end. And ensuring that the DVT-loco wiring is up to standard. And refurbishing the mk.3 coaches with retention tanks for the toilets, and getting them up to DDA compliance. And ensuring that the mk.3 coaches that you select for the refurbishment and...
