The boards being parallel to the gates makes a big difference. I'm convinced that part of the problem at Euston is that trains are called late, and then it takes time for people to actually find their platforms, because if they're looking at the boards (perpendicular to the gates) then their...
Maybe instead of litigating terms and conditions and installing cameras to shame people, they could've—I don't know—come up with a programme to improve way finding and install more lifts at an interchange between a busy airport line & a busy intercity rail line, where the majority of users won't...
Perhaps this suggests the lifts are badly positioned and there aren't enough of them? One of the reasons for the (very popular, but not especially reliable) incline lifts at Liv St etc. was that instead of having to walk down a dingy passageway, queue, then walk down another dingy passageway to...
Inexplicably when the new Worldline CIS was rolled out on London Overground, it was incapable of displaying station names at full length. It’s 2024, there’s no excuse for a scrolling list to display “Dalston Kngslnd” or “Highbury & I”.
It is not. The TGV and TER offerings are completely different in terms of train type, calling patterns, etc. The LNER and TPE offerings between York and Newcastle are almost identical.
Is it really beneficial to anyone to sting a customer with what’s effectively a substantial penalty if they...
Last year I went to Newcastle and on departure from York, the LNER TM told two gentlemen (clearly unfamiliar with the system) who'd just bought tickets from the machines that their tickets were TPE only, and she would need to sell them new tickets at the full price. Similar type of train with...
The lifts at the Woolwich Tunnel have been broken for several years. There is no sign of them getting fixed any time soon. So that may go some way to explain why it is so deserted by comparison.
This is exactly the point, people getting onto a toiletless train for what should’ve been a “short hop” and then being stuck for 3-5 hours with no access to facilities at all.
Whether that should be fixed by retrofitting the trains with toilets or a faster evacuation process is what’s up for...
That’s funny, Hampstead Heath was the first place I noticed the hidden Mildmay Line signage under vinyl overground branding - spotted that months ago, even before the Mayoral election. It’s definitely there. I spotted it at Gospel Oak and Stratford today too. If you look closely you can see the...
I definitely noticed it was on in the eastbound tunnel from Paddington on Saturday. They also appear to have fixed (at least partially) the bandwidth and connectivity issues with O2 in some of the core stations.
Anything from Whitechapel eastwards is still a dead zone in tunnel, though.
When did this change? Yesterday O2 was very much not working at Whitechapel (and also not usable for data at Farringdon - although TCR and Liv St were fine.)
Why does the second train need to be shown with equal prominence and an identical design to the first train? Could it not be of the same font size, design etc. as the subsequent departures, tweaked to show calling points if necessary?
Most people, especially most potential cyclists who don’t already cycle, will not want to cycle at 20mph or more. 10-15mph is fast enough. They need safe infrastructure on main roads, traffic reduction on side streets, and reduced speeds in all contexts where they’re interacting with vehicles...
If they genuinely don’t know what’s going on? Sure. The usual sentence construction is something like “apologies for the delay, we’re trying to find out the reason and I’ll update you when I have more information, thanks for your patience.”
Hopefully they can do something about the screens being entirely blank for most of the time between stations(!) No reason not to flip between the train destination and next station to give additional reassurance to people that they’re on the right train.
Well-designed underpasses that increase amenity for pedestrians and cyclists are to be welcomed. Surprisingly the Green Man Roundabout in Leytonstone is a really good example from the 90s: well-lit, wide underpasses with generous corners and entrances/exits on every arm, well used, lots of green...
I believe it was a token measure during one of the many long outages of the lifts at the Greenwich foot tunnel (where technically cycling is banned, but many people cycle anyway and it is part of NCN 1.)
Of course the cable car still isn’t really a viable cycle crossing if you don’t work 9-5...
Again, I highlight that if you go to SNCF ticket machines, you can simply quote your PNR (booking reference) and the surname in which the booking was made. It will print your ticket, and/or re-send you the email with a PDF and wallet pass. This isn't a question of whether ID needs to be...
