is it just me, but these works seem to be taking us users of the line by surprise. For example on the East Coast digital posters at Welwyn Garden City there is no mention of this. The 2 weekend closures at in January would have got planned for months (maybe years) but the level of communications...
I totally agree, it is a big concern if this gets onto the Southern Part of the route. If it is implemented on this part of the route then the big winners are the ticket splitting websites. I wonder if we will see some partnerships such as EMR / Northern with new "off-peak fares via Sheffield"...
They are also directing people to air - by cutting the air passenger duty on domestic flights. However I suspect if the price is right, we will just be picking flows that LNER don't price to continue to use the off-peak.
LNER are saying it won't impact many people, this could be true as I...
I must admit I don't see any benefit to this change for me.
It times the off-peak ticket is within £5 of the cheapest advance ticket - so I pay for the flexible ticket. But right not I know that a ticket between say London and Edinburgh will cost no more then £y. The current situation does...
I would agree the 724 is nothing special anymore, operated by standard 10 year old buses doesn't help it stand out from the crowd. In fact in terms of comfort the 301 often gets better quality buses.
I digress, some of the buses have being painted into a special "Greenline" livery. so even on...
Just splitting from this thread,
I see one of the challenges on the ECML is balacing speeds and connectivity. Recent re-casts have provided challenges for direct services between local stations such as Newark - Retford.
To avoid filling up this tread...
It is the ones heading to York and further north. With Leeds generally running every half hour the connections into it tend not to be as bad. There probably are some good connections, but if you take 0947 Doncaster - Peterborough service, the nearest connections from the north are the hourly...
We have a couple of threads about faster services to Leeds / Edinburgh from London.
But as the original timetable covered all operators, I was just wondering if we had an consulations about the rest of them. For example EMR was planning to remodel a lots of their routes to included.
Grimsby -...
Some of the proposals in the past made sense, but Covid has changed things.
Extending to Ebbsfleet for example, would provide better connections into Eurostar (but they don't stop there anymore) - If you use the existing route via Dartford you have a congested railway and a new alingment is...
Thanks so definately no a race in terms of time, I think the 1956 is probably as good as possible in terms of speed, so EMR should still keep the headline of speed if they want to.
I don't see how the will compete on time to be honest, it is about 85 minutes from London - Retford (Using HTs timetable) - Then we are looking at least 35 minutes from Retford - Sheffield.
EMR are just shy of 2 hours.
Really we are looking at about the same time, I am sure EMR will be able...
I think they have 10 car daigrams on Friday as standard. Not sure specifically which trains, but you often do see a 10 car on Fridays (an weekends) more likely today as I suspect demand is higher with the engineering works at the weekend.
Going South from Retford how (and where) would it cross the ECML? That will be a pain in the rear to path.
Getting paths out of King Cross will be interesting.
If they are looking for Speed I wonder if EMR will fight back by speeding up a service, say non-stop from Chesterfield if it avoids...
That is nice to see to be honest,
I was once travelling from Market Rasen - Cleethorpes. I can't remember which mobile network I was on at the time but I couldn't buy a ticket at the station because it wasn't strong enough. So it was about Barnetby before I got a signal strong enough to...
Does the scanning matter? I have never had the automatic delay repay work for me on LNER, but then I rarely get my ticket checked either so that may explain why. My journeys also normally include other operators at both ends. But I have always found the delay repay claim is more complex then it...
It is strange from the demand point of view, living in the area when I was younger it was the tolls that really put people off going to Hull. You tended to go to other cities. However not sure if it was free if someone from Grimsby would chose to go to Hull over say Sheffield / Leeds.
Thank you - I know some people coming through the airport heading into London so I will point them to the bus again to get to the station. This was a very useful thread. The other option I suggested to get them to Central London is the bus all the way (Either National Express or Greenline) if...
Could you change at Hatfield and Stainforth instead or does the slower service negate the benefit to going to Doncaster on a faster one.
But I agree if the demand existed, it would be had to beat the bus, the motorway network is rarely busy around there. For Grimsby I will assume the humberlink...
