I have heard this view that 170s are not very good at start stop work. But they have really done it since new. Some of the later builds of Scotrials 170s were specifically ordered for start stop work. Likewise WMR (which ultimately have moved to EMR) were mainly on stop / start work.
I can't...
I think the changes have made it worse. Can’t really tell on passenger numbers. Going South for example at Welwyn Garden City the Sevenoaks services are more heavily loaded as the Kings Cross service is so close behind why wait for it?
The Letchworth services is cancelled a lot more frequently...
You only need to have travelled for the last 4 weeks to make the statement you see no evidence of a disruption plan. I am sure it is the same everywhere on GTR but a few examples.
1. At Welwyn Garden City they only show trains that are actually running. So you often are met with a blank screen...
I must admit that is a big frustration of mine as well, at Blackfriars you get on the first train to Finsbury Park. Get off to connect to Welwyn Garden City, on to find out that the train you have just got off is stopping additionally at Welwyn Garden City. Granted control could have decided to...
It is a case of what is your preference on 2 things. The train is better on the fast services as the 700s are awful trains in terms of comfort. However if you were doing the change today there are no lifts at St Pancras making it difficult if you have limited mobility.
Which is quicker. Who...
I would also rather change at Cambridge, starting point of the service so get any seat you want. Although kings Cross to St pancras is easy that is too sets of barriers and a lift lottery at st Pancras.
Which is why from WGC I tend to change at Finsbury Park, staying on the same platfom is...
Interesting point about Welwyn Garden City although failures there don’t seem as common as St Pancras.
With the station design the alternatives are not as bad. The lift on Platform 2 failing may result in using a Moorgate train or circulating via Hatfield. Platform ¾ they normally send a...
To me there are 2x possibilities.
1. Northern to get rid of the 319 varieties if possible.
2. C2C which could release 357s for great northern and in turn 700s for anyone. I know we will get why should great northern get old trains but the are much better from the customer point of view then...
With respect to St Pancras it is frequently out of service. Looking at the station information it is still today.
Yes things take time to fix, but if the lift between the a platform and the station is gone both directions are impacted. In my opinion for a station with such a large volume 2...
It is getting increasingly frustrating to travel with a disabled person at the moment. Some of the stations I am going to highlight below are fairly new so the problem is purely financial as at design stage it was chosen to only have a single. Lift. Journey Welwyn Garden City - London Bridge...
Have they extended the Letchworth service to Cambridge.
It didn’t last as later posts show. Couple of 717s failed (one blocking p4 at WGC most of the peak). Most Kings Cross - Letchworth cancelled. Extra stops a WGC not possible with a platform blocked. (Too risky that waiting for P3 would...
I wonder if it was on the mml side. Logic is on GN side other trains use most of the route. On the MML side north of Luton is mainly FLUs.
Was rubbish tonight. Lots of Kings Cross - Letchworth cancelled. The fast Cambridge stopped additionally at WGC (not that they told anyone there)
Interesting it is only the 12 cars impacted. Unless there is an infrastructure issue on the regular routes damaging them that the 8 cars don’t venture on.
This may have got covered elsewhere on the thread but to me electrifications is probably the best way. Get the wires up between Basingstoke and Coventry.
When you look at this from north to South, it could make the freight companies happy.
At the Southern end of the route it could help with...
