After having claims rejected and then appealing, I’ve finally got Northern to cough up for delay repay for journeys that my parents and I took on the same day back in June.
Me - Lancashire to Cumbria on an off peak day return.
Mum and Dad travelling together - South Yorkshire to Yorkshire coast...
Has these been discussed since the detsils of validity have become available?

Proposals for new and enhanced services in Cumbria have been announced. Glad to see Ravenglass back on the bus network, after how long?
“Cumberland Council has today approved plans to go to market to procure and commission a major expansion of local bus services, backed by £3.5 million in...
I haven’t seen any Northern printed timetable leaflets for a long time and assumed that they had been discontinued (other than the excellent Coast, Lakes, Dales and Fells booklet). Some enterprising stations did however provide black and white A4 printouts of the PDFs as a substitute.
Anyway...
For as long as I can remember, the Ravenglass & Eskdale Railway has run a daily train service from mid March to the beginning of November. This year however, it looks like that there will be no service on certain Fridays in March, April, May and October...
In late November and early December last year I submitted two separate Delay Repay claims to Northern, using their paper claim forms sent to the Freepost Northern Railway address. I have still heard nothing back about either claim. Even allowing for the Christmas and New Year breaks, I was think...
The ticket that I hold is the return portion of a Sheffield to Steeton & Silsden SHR Anytime Short Return, routed "not via Doncaster". Today I have broken my journey at Rotherham Central and need to complete my journey tomorrow, which is a Northern strike day. My plan was take a bus...
Has anyone seen a copy of Northern’s handy “Coast, Lakes, Dales and Fells” timetable booklet (December 2023 on) out in the wild?
I had no luck collecting one from Skipton station today.

Is this text message information service still working? The battery on my iPad mini is on its last legs, so I was playing around with this retro solution for train timetables on the go. No reply to the texts that I send though.
The NRE...
I was planning on posting this in Disputes and Prosecutions but it’s probably a bit late to be claiming compensation after 40 years.
Remember RailRiders? British Rail’s club for kids. Late 1970s / early 1980s. Advertised by The Goodies. You paid to join and in return you got a badge, a regular...
Looking at various heritage railway websites (I haven't checked “social media”)-
Suspending services -
Ravenglass and Eskdale
Severn Valley
North Yorkshire Moors
Talyllyn (despite website contradicting itself with “For visitors: Our trains and events will continue to run as normal”)
Appear to...
It’s not just the Hope Valley Line that Northern have messed up. The cancellation of both the 1550 (which starts back a Carlisle) and 1647 consecutive services from Barrow in Furness to Manchester Airport has messed up connections from the Furness Line to the Bentham Line at Carnforth/Lancaster...
Looking at the local railcards available, it seems that nearly all are only available to people who are resident in the area. The Cotswold Line Railcard seems to be the exception.

I wonder what the point of this restriction is and how it came...
This was a long-standing offer, giving Dales Railcard (and some WYPTE pass) holders the chance to buy cheap day ranger tickets on the Settle & Carlisle and Bentham lines over the quieter winter months. The last time it ran was from 4th November 2019 to 4th April 2020. The 2020/21 offer was...
Not sure if this (new?) ticket has been posted on here. It isn’t listed on the railrover.org website yet.
£13 for the day, one or two adults with children (up to 5 people in total), excludes the morning peak Monday to Friday 0631-0929, disappointingly no railcard discounts. The big surprise is...
Back in 2018, it was mentioned in a thread that the longest journey for which there was an Anytime Short Return (SHR) fare for was for a journey of 168 miles.

I’ve just noticed that unfortunately these tickets have been...
(I am aware of this previous closed thread - Mods., merge if you think that is appropriate - https://www.railforums.co.uk/threads/carlisle-security-and-northern-rail-major-concerns.156426/ )
This happened to me today, they've now got my date of birth on file, and I'm not happy about the way it...
Not sure if this has been discussed before. Using a recently installed Northern TVM, I noticed that it has what appears to be a pair of cameras installed. The lenses are visible behind the two small square windows, above the credit card keypad. One of the lenses is looking straight forwards and...
Why do journey planners sometimes suggest an unnecessary double-back when changing trains? This has happened to me twice recently: Waterloo Merseyside to Ormskirk - change at Moorfields rather than Sandhills, and Barrow in Furness to Skipton - change at Lancaster rather than Carnforth. One...
