    EMR class 156s for Northern

Class 156416 ex EMR on it's way to Heaton after a lengthy overhaul. Rumoured to be its new home along with 417 when released from Wolverton.

They are terrible I agree. They seem to bellow out at excessive volume also. I saw one passenger the other day with his hands over his ears. Ridiculously loud.

Rolling stock which is "stored" at a station platform overnight.

Units are parked up at Darlington and are cleaned every night in platform 2 and 3.

Some of the Angel leased Heaton based 156s have some bad corrosion issues. Usually around the toilet area. Just above the solebar. Also where the crew valve is located is another regular location.

    EMR class 156s for Northern

Think 408 is the only one. However 410 is on NH. Whether it comes in to service or goes back to Crewe for painting is unclear.

    EMR class 156s for Northern

Two ex EMR 156s were at Heaton. Think 405 went to Crewe for painting a few weeks ago and is now at NH in Northern livery. The other was 410 which went to Crewe Saturday gone for painting. On arrival it then went to NH around an hour later for whatever reason?

    EMR class 156s for Northern

Unit 405 went to Crewe about 9 days ago from HT for paint. Unit 406 was at Crewe but I’m not sure if it is back at NH now being prepared for service. Unit 410 is possibly still at HT in EMR livery?

    EMR class 156s for Northern

The NH based units tend to stay around the NW and the HT based ones around the NE. However the cumbrian coast diagrams tend to be HT units also. HT allocated units are the ones that are Angel leased with the exception of two. The NH based 156s are all Porterbrook leased units.

To Crewe for painting. I believe 406 is at Crewe also for the same reason.

    EMR class 156s for Northern

Yes I got it wrong. They are about 3 years younger not older.

    EMR class 156s for Northern

Possibly? It may contribute. Their age is certainly a major factor. However the 158s are only about 3 years older and don't seem to suffer corrosion on the lower bodyside.

A lot of the Angel leased units at Heaton are suffering bad corrosion. I’ve worked a few lately that have filler in them around the bottom of the toilet area and along towards the cab where the crew valve is. A lot of bubbling under the paint is also very noticeable around the same area.
