"No brainer" in the context of forums such as this generally means "I would like / want it to happen" [so have made no thought to how viable it actually would be]
track access fees etc... (and I would have thought costs of staffing St P vs Stratford) seem all rather irrelevant unless a way to solve Stratford capacity as frequently mentioned by Bald Rick is found
Do we have any idea how well Virgin are progressing in the "secure access to other rail networks, and obtain safety approvals from ORR and the relevant authorities in the EU." part?
On the face of it building near well connected stations makes better sense, not least that for the developer they should be more desirable. I would hope a default yes doesn't mean default approval for 'bad' schemes
However I bet an unintended consequence will be to up the level of resistance to...
If I were NR I would not make too much noise on this, at least externally, until the project is much closer to completion. Especially if you already know there could be doubts on keeping to the timing for Neville Hill work
I did miss that 'scheduled' stops was mentioned, so presumably 'unscheduled' in times of disruption can start at some point, hopefully sooner vs later else not much point having built the thing!

Got to say that I find it poor in the extreme that it seems the new platform will still not get used for...
Political reality is not the same as actual fact. Welsh government (nationalist) will say 'this is a Welsh railway and we want to run trains on it to Bristol, not London ... who are Westminster to overrule us...?'
(Ignoring that they need to ask UK government permission to use non Welsh tracks...
Quite!
Thanks, that's given me a good laugh!
Precisely, but (unfortunately) not good politics or a nice earner for a consultancy company to try and disprove the obvious
I agree, however the conversation always seems to be "there's enough demand from xyz to justify an HS1/ HS2 link" and my view is that, even with a link and other issues such as security being solved there still would be (generously) an extremely marginal case, and certainly not enough to have...
As I've said before this conversation has been done to death (and way beyond) on this and other forums multiple times in the last 10 years and the answer is a clear no. The only change since then with the pruning back of HS2 is that paths on HS2 may now be available. I doubt this gets close to...
I'm sure they will, no matter how relevant, or not, that would be.
Even if there were no need for security checks, passports etc... there were no infrastructure compatibility issues (not including capacity to find suitable paths) would there be a big enough market for this to work even to the...
how many people?
Really this topic has been done to death on these and other forums several times in the last years and it is always blindingly obvious that even with the most favourable conditions there is no business case.
I appreciate this is in the speculative but far better to speculate on...
Wouldn't there need to be at least an element of this as batteries (even if replaced like for like which isn't going to happen) would be expected to be replaced at least once if not twice during the lifetime of the overall unit (and replaced due to old age, not just something is now much better)
Presumably the infrastructure operator, including the tunnel, will get more revenue from extra services so should at least put some investment into enabling their business to grow?
Interesting. Could it be that the Welsh government may find it difficult to deliver after getting what it asked for? Could some eggs be heading towards some faces?
In the discussion around boosting passenger numbers at Honiton & Axminster (as railheads for surrounding towns and villages) via improved service would car parking provision at those stations, or at the least integrated busses, need some consideration?
