Is there space for that?
I seem to recall that prior to the signal box closure Low Level was in a different location (as was the junction?) and had two platforms.
Why does that matter? Arrival at one hour before with bags to check in would be cutting it too fine either way, even if the bus was bang on time.
I would agree with @AlterEgo though that simply from managing one’s stress levels, relying on a rail replacement bus to get you to an airport on...
Not really, as the same article says a 15% increase could happen before the runway opens, and 25% once it does. The late 2030s increase is 39%.
Given the usual railway lead time for planning capacity increases, and for any new build rolling stock deemed to be required, I don’t think questions...
It’s maybe worth noting that the approved plan includes a 14% increase in flights BEFORE the 2nd runway is complete (so could happen relatively soon), and a 25% increase in total.
Also, it’s not just passengers, but the airport and airlines employs thousands of people either directly or...
Is that an efficient use of stock though, running 12 car trains to the south coast termini which will cart lots of empty space south of Gatwick, rather than thickening up capacity north of Gatwick?
I’m inclined to agree with you, although it is probably the cheapest option.
As to increasing capacity on the London to Gatwick run, there’s a fleet of 350/2s going spare that could take up the slack of a return to a 4tph Gatwick Express operation. That could deliver 48 extra cars ph and...
Ah, so from the UK to Asia we’ve gone from one direct flight to three, including a long stop in your Eastern European city of choice and one of undetermined length in Doha. As I said, it’s a lot of hassle just to get a cheaper Business Class seat or (as was) Tier Points.
The BBC reports that one issue is restoration of the 4tph Gatwick Express.
Given the additional connectivity that the Elizabeth Line gives for Gatwick passengers, (I find it the easiest way when arriving at Paddington from the west), I do wonder whether a Gatwick Express is really needed at...
Worth noting for those who have criticised TfW for not having completed them yet that at the moment, the rolling stock being used still have toilets, so it’s not as though the delay has disadvantaged anyone.
Not sure that’s a good example, as the 230s are substantially rebuilt London Underground trains with a completely novel traction for the national rail network. Whereas the 175 is effectively just lifted up from one route and put on another, albeit with some remedial work. So any approval would...
Draw yourself a little diagram of a) two tracks converging into one, and then b) a crossover that moves you from one track to a second parallel track, and you will quickly see why you need two sets of pointwork.
The cost of a new high speed crossover would run into several million, when you...
That’s the key point. All trains heading south on the up slow have to converge onto the single track, so the high speed point work is essential to maximise capacity. That’s slightly different to putting in two sets of high speed points (which don’t come cheap) for one or two trains a day.
I'm afraid so. The railway typically regards each time you travelled as a separate instance of fare evasion. Think of it as an additional penalty for fare dodging. You can't argue with them over it, as if you do they will just take you to court - and you will be found guilty.
