    43074's Trip Reports

A nice move, although any day out involving class 68 haulage is going to be good :)

The Various Random Mutterings of Kite

I'm just catching up (again!) on all the trip reports. Some very nice moves there, particularly the IOW. I've done the steam railway once, back in 2005 with the wife, but sadly 05001 didn't work, so that's required.

The Chinnor & Princess Risborourgh Railway

Another excellent review. I do enjoy your in-depth write ups.

A fantastic few days, most enjoyable reading.

    Juliano's World Frenzy/Tech's Trip Reports

An excellent three day move. The Bluebell is now very much on my to-do list, having been excluded during their anti diesel days. You can't accuse them of that now!

    55013's Contemporary Trip Reports

Cough, splutter....boring shunters??? boring shunters! I feel faint ;) Shunters are superb, gronks are great, rods are, er, really good. Seriously though, the Bluebell looked good but would have meant a very long day, or even an overnight, whereas the ELR is on our doorstep. Two winners...

I must get to Merseyrail this summer!

Looks like a great day at the Bluebell. Interestingly 73119 was my (joint) first 73 as well - also on a class 40 tour but somewhat later than you - 31st August 1987 "The Desert Songster", 40122 was the main tour engine, with 73117 & 73119 working from Kensington Olympia to Waterloo via Barnes...

A brief day out on the rails

It looks like a nice little day out to me, including the 142 action :) As is often the case, your post brought back a memory of the old days - my only visit to Dumfries was on the 8th of September 1990. A few of us did 31412 Leeds - Harrogate - York - Leeds - Carlisle, then monster 37693 to...

    55013's Contemporary Trip Reports

Ouch, you have my sympathy. Thanks, 33027 will haunt me to my grave! No matter how often I proof read my postings, I always miss something! :) Cheers. Mrs 13 is very accommodating, but then so am I, we both believe in give and take and as long as we do plenty of stuff together...

Outstanding couple of days there. I love the NVR. One of my favourite railway memories is of one Autumn evening, standing in a MK1 compo with my head out of the window, whilst the train waited at Orton Mere for another to pass. It was 25 (25057, I think) and it was steaming. Listening to...

Porto Weekend, Apr 2016 (review & phots)

Excellent stuff. I've only been to Portugal once, back in 2007 and my one solo day out on the trains produced 5604, which I see you had, from Faro to Lisbon for 2621 back. Thanks for rekindling some old memories.

    47/7 push pulls

If I remember correctly, 47701 - 47712 were created for Glasgow - Edinburgh workings. These were deemed a success and so a few years later some Glasgow - Aberdeen services were added to the diagrams and 47713 - 47716 joined the fleet. 47713 then caught fire and was withdrawn, with its...

    backontrack's railway musings

Loved the TTTE parody, very funny. I think the Sheerness line remained open because at the time many other branches were getting chopped it had a lot of freight, to the steelworks and the docks, thus ensuring its financial viability.

    Kris' Travel Advice! [Trip Reports/Reviews]

 I don't know who started eulogising about the 68s first but I'm happy for you to claim the honour as long as I get the cheques :)

    55013's Contemporary Trip Reports

Thanks, I just had to take what I could get at the NVR in the limited time available. I've had 47712 a few times before, but not for a while (October 2005 was the last time!) so would definitely have done it if I'd had the chance. I believe 45135 of this parish enjoyed a ruin on it. No...

    Juliano's World Frenzy/Tech's Trip Reports

Congratulations on clearing Merseyrail, no mean feat that. As always, some very enjoyable reading. I particularly noted 319382 - my last 319 required for sight and 508123 - the only Merseyrail unit that I've yet to set eyes on!
