Traveled without a valid ticket and have been sent a letter. Please help me respond.

It's a pretty good draft which can be improved slightly with najaB and DaveNewcastle's suggestions. As jonmorris0844 points out the railway company won't be too concerned about your feelings or anxiety, so try and stay focused on what matters to them: the fact you used your friend's ticket when...

Prosecution letter on the way - please help!!

Hi wenyclang. We're missing a bit of detail, so I wonder if we could have a little more information as this will help us advise you accordingly: - Can you let us know precisely what ticket you ended up purchasing and travelled with? For example, was it an Anytime Day Return or an Off-peak day...

Northern conductors being move active on later services

I have noticed a marked improvement in Northern's efforts at on board revenue collection over the last couple of months, so I think management has been pushing it much more. Additional ticket examiners / sellers are now becoming a more common sight on services too, which is to be welcomed.

    crehld's travels

5 November 2015 It was time to use up my last Northern Day Ranger before the offer ran out. I was aiming to work on a bit more route coverage today. I have gaps in Northern's network to Scunthorpe, Hull and the limited service line between Goole and Knottingley, so these were today's objectives...

Refused access to Birmingham Lounge with York - Winchester ticket

I suspect most of the general public couldn't care less nor pay any great deal of attention as to which company runs the train or the first class lounge. They just care about where the train goes. Which is why a codified and clear policy would be in everyone's best interest.

No need to get tetchy! Of course it's not all about me. There were several passengers affected by the fact who ended up incurring a delay of over one hour as a result. Anyway, had you bothered to read my earlier post (which you obviously haven't - not for the first time) you would...

DFT agrees to 30% revenue budget savings over next 4 years

Central government grants to local authorities come from the DCLG's revenue budget, so are included in the annual "running costs of the department", and this is likely to impact councils big time. Furthermore despite the 'localism' rhetoric, councils (in England at least) are subject to highly...

You're missing the point here. Of course we could claim delay repay. But by not cooperating effectively the railway industry has cost itself in having to pay out compensation, especially if you consider many of the passengers affected had paid 3-figure sums for their tickets (the guard made a...

This happened to me on Friday. The 0556 Hellifield to Lancaster was 8 mins late into Lancaster. Several of us (at least 8) had a simple cross platform transfer to the 0658 to Euston via Birmingham which we would miss due to the delay. Long before we arrived the guard had made some calls and...

DFT agrees to 30% revenue budget savings over next 4 years

You were expecting a different outcome? It's pretty clear this government focuses on the bottom line budget rather than job creation.

Is Delay Repay due in this case?

I don't know. IF the departure screens did not show the departure and IF staff advised her it was cancelled / not running then I say you have grounds for a claim. If this is the cases she made all reasonable efforts to determine the running status of the train and once it was confirmed to her it...

    advice needed

Agreed. That phrase was in the other example because in that case the OP been invited to make an administrative settlement. I would suggest something worded like: "I would like to avoid this matter being escalated further and would be happy to pay the outstanding fare due and any additional...

Under caution with a valid ticket

So for the purpose of providing a clear and unambiguous answer to BestWestern's question, the RPI or their office colleagues would not have the authority, but may mobilize the support of the police who do have such authority?

Is Delay Repay due in this case?

If the 2142 to Oxford did not run then yes delay repay is applicable and should be sought from Great Western. According to Realtimetrains, the 21:42 Paddington to Oxford did run yesterday: http://www.realtimetrains.co.uk/train/P01342/2015/11/08 Was it not displayed on the departure...

DFT agrees to 30% revenue budget savings over next 4 years

The news article says: Given this is the only source we are working with at the moment, this looks like it is a 30% reduction in the various departments' revenue budgets, rather than their capital budgets. If this is the case investment in new infrastructure / upgrade to existing...

Trivia: UK rail line with best case for closure

I think you'll find enthusiasts have very little impact on determining how services are run. Clearly it is not all the enthusiasts keeping the railways open! The fact you suggest Leeds to Lancaster isn't busy confirms to me you don't know what you're on about. It is busy. I duly invite you...

Trivia: UK rail line with best case for closure

Wondered how long it would take for this one to come up. Of course usage figures for this line are far underestimated, being based on tickets sold in board which frequently does not happen. Demand is hampered by the limited service (not the other way around). Despite this passenger numbers, both...
