I love the FNL. The journey through the Flow Country is underrated massively. How could it be improved? Have a bar car inserted on the train selling beer and snacks. Anything improving the services timings i think is too much to cash to compete with the bus and the car.

Thats a strategy issue. If they dont have a safety car they run out of fuel anyway, so no issue. They use so little fuel under the safety car that this is not an issue and there will still always be a reduction in green flag laps as the only ones you get back are from letting lapped runners...

As far as I am aware the tunnel is completely unlined and goes through very complex geology with steeply dipping slates, so would be tough. It has just had a whole load of rock bolting done in it to help improve its stability, so i dont know what repairs are being mentioned.

Certainly we shouldnt be pre emptively closing lines, but i dont think we should keep railways open at any cost in the event of needing major financial intervention for repairs. Certainly from a societal benefits point of view.

I dont think we will see a line be actively closed. Though it wouldnt at all surprise me to see one close as a result of a major repair being needed
