Can I please be cheeky and re-ask this question as my sense of curiosity is positively burning (and, in fact, I have been asked this by two of my friends) ?

I am not sure you can make that comment, as it could also affect the decision whether to bother putting toilets in ore not, for trains into the future. any train And how many in the future ? It's basic business / human nature : if stuff becomes more difficult and/or expensive people try to avoid...

Whatever the truth of the matter this is a classic case of the law of unintended consequences. I remember when regulations were introduced that every train with a toilet must have one which is disabled accessible. The latter are bigger and more expensive, so it just encouragd some train...

I thought here were new rules about only busses with defined "acceptable disabled access" were allowed these days ?

If the epicentre of the problem was in the Ardwick area can anyone tell me why we were able to get this train pretty much no problem (apart from it being late) ?

In my experience revenue checks, particularly on the train, rarely happen when there is major disruption, the staff would rather just keep their heads down.... To be fair, at Piccadilly today there were loads of staff out and about giving advice, so fair play to them.

We were travelling to Sheffield, originally from Oxford Rd, and took the decision to walk to Piccadilly despite being told "it'd be no better". For once the Gods were smiling on us and we just had time to get on the 14.48 stopper because it left 36min late ! This goes via Romiley not Stockport...

I planned to volunteer for the Elsecar Railway (and the Chesterfield Canal society, or whatever they call themselves now) when I retired, but that won't be for 2 or 3 years ! Hopefully they've restarted by then.....

Good news indeed. Though I do remember a few years ago on the SVR asking if I could walk down to the bottom of the platform ramp (at Bridgnorth) to take a picture of the loco (7812) which had just hauled us in, and being told "No" ! Sadly I have never felt the same way about the SVR since.....

I'd have thought it's a similar principle as older locos having "grandfather rights" to use the network despite maybe having pollution levels which are not legal these days. It's basically that stuff should not be imposed retrospectively, there's an argument that they effectively retrospectively...

Bit of a niche question this ! When the Bluebell Railway cleared the Imberhome cutting tip (i.e. waste material that was already landfilled....) why did they have to pay landfill tax on it ? ! ?
