Our new ticketing site is now live! Using either this or the original site (both powered by TrainSplit) helps support the running of the forum with every ticket purchase! Find out more and ask any questions/give us feedback in this thread!
We cannot help you unless you tell us who you purchased the ticket from (as already advised it won't be nationalrail.co.uk as they don't sell tickets).
We also need to know exactly what trains you intended to take, along with what happened and what you did.
But how many actually do that? People who engage with the process almost always end up with an out of court settlement. Currently someone not engaging is prosecuted under the Byelaws or RoRA. If they then don't engage it's a conviction which will have a collection order for the fine and a...
The law around ticketless travel and fare evasion needs urgent reform but I'm not sure decriminalising it is the answer.
Someone who doesn't engage with the process currently ends up with a byelaw conviction or at worse a conviction under the Regulation of the Railways Act, for most purposes...
Well quite. I simply cannot see how it can be enforced, especially at Stevenage.
If there’s disruption on Thameslink, which is a pretty frequent occurrence, then people aren’t going to stand on the platform, see a LNER train stop, open its doors and let it go. They’re going to get on it.
There's no o2 signal down there. All the networks really should have coverage down there.
I don't believe so. It's been mentioned on here that LNER has been involved in Oval discussions. LNER will lose their Stevenage revenue as a result of this, GTR will gain.
It’s not so much about what they can do, it’s what they will do in reality, given the journey time.
I don’t think I’ve ever had a ticket check on LNER or their predecessors between Stevenage and Kings Cross (except once in 1st class). The barriers at Kings Cross can’t be programmed to reject...
If heading along the Grays Inn Road then Kings Cross is much better.
If wanting the Underground Kings Cross is much better. The interchange at Finsbury Park is very useful (especially for the Victoria Line) but it’s sub-optimal having to use the spiral staircase (must be 70 steps from platform...
Are you saying that the Travelcard didn't operate the ticket barriers at some stations, or that the Travelcard was flatly refused by staff?
I've had valid tickets of all different types rejected by barriers but never, ever had a Travelcard rejected by station staff in Zones 1-6.
There is a frequent Thameslink service from Stevenage but there's often disruption. Take last week's issues following the power failure at Blackfriars, LNER services were very useful but I'd imagine they won't want to assist once services become pick-up/set down only.
Making Stevenage passgers...
Comparisons with supermarkets aren’t really comparable and should only really be made for joke or amusement purposes.
For example, we don’t have:
National Supermarket Conditions of Purchase
Supermarket Settlement Agreement
Supermarket Byelaws
Regulation of the Supermarkets Act Penalty Shopping...
A sneaky fares increase from GTR, my thoughts are that GTR are removing the weekend super off-peak tickets by stealth which probably required for Oval to be a success. Keep increasing the price until it becomes the same as the weekday price.
Looking at Stevenage to London Terminals.
March...

My observations from working in London yesterday.
Fewer commuters than normal, many I suspect choosing to work from home. Buses very busy, some wedged full but plenty of room o others, depending on route.
Plenty of people walking to their places of work. Many with phone in hand consulting...
It's not really a disrecpancy, fares are often set up this way to take account of passenger numbers in a particular direction.
Compare Cambridge to London with London to Cambridge
Or Stevenage to London with London to Stevenage.
I wouldn't expect a bus driver to check tickets (in the same way as a train driver doesn't check tickets) but there's no reason why revenue staff cannot check tickets.
RRBs should not be seen as a free ride.
Just to point out that the Post Office (the state owned company that operates the counters side of the business and whete the Horizon issue happened) is a completely separate organisation to Royal Mail (the privatised company that sorts and delivers mail).
We are aware of an issue with emails from the Forum to Microsoft-based email accounts (hotmail/outlook/live.com email addresses). This is being looked into currently, thanks for your patience meanwhile.
