    Wolverhampton to Nuneaton permitted routes

The cheaper Penkridge-Nuneaton fares I mentioned are routed "via Tamworth", so getting one of those does then commit me to that direction. It's disappointing that my OP has been moved, because I have had success on three previous occasions in getting reasonable routes reinstated in the Routeing...

    Wolverhampton to Nuneaton permitted routes

I need to travel from Wolverhampton to Nuneaton on the afternoon of Sunday 4 September. It's 75 minutes via Stafford and 96 minutes via Birmingham New Street. Why isn't the former a valid route? Seems to be a reasonable way to go. (Split ticketing at Penkridge, gets the price down if I go...

    Avanti West Coast cancellations

Interesting. Avanti's original email confirmation shows the original pre-discount value of £196.00 crossed out replaced by £0.00. The eTicket itself just shows £0.00. Have you experience of submitting one of these £0.00 tickets to Avanti, or was it another TOC? Did you declare zero as the...

    Club Avanti to launch

Still no invite for me, despite marketing/comms preferences set correctly, 10+ years of Traveller membership, and a couple of dozen bookings direct via the Avanti website in the past year. (I travelled much more, but I normally book through LNER for their cashback.) My partner, who has no...

    Avanti West Coast cancellations

I felt sorry for the three Avanti staff on the ground in Glasgow Central yesterday afternoon. They were clearly getting minimal to no support from Avanti Ops and having to deal with several hundred passengers who couldn't travel. The 14:35 was cancelled as the inbound train set had only made...

    Club Avanti to launch

I was a Traveller member for many years, from just after its inception until 2021, and I seem to recall I had to give permission for data to be transferred from Virgin to Avanti. I've not been invited, despite that, or maybe because of that!

    Club Avanti to launch

https://www.avantiwestcoast.co.uk/tickets-and-savings/club-avanti After gutting -- and, it seems, now retiring -- Virgin's excellent loyalty programme Traveller, Avanti are about to launch Club Avanti. Apart from getting you 10% off on-board food and drinks just for signing up, the programme...

Avanti have blocked online sales of Anytime/Off-Peak first-class fares on shorter routes

Yes, it has re-appeared on some weekday trains. Sadly, nothing on Sunday 8 May nor Sunday 22 May, the next two days I am travelling.

Avanti have blocked online sales of Anytime/Off-Peak first-class fares on shorter routes

Got it now! Thanks! That's the reservation bit sorted then. Just running the numbers, my best option for Liverpool to Stafford would appear to be (and this is for two passengers travelling off-peak using a Two-Together railcard): LIV-STA Off-Peak First-Class Single - £23.85 each = £42.93...

Avanti have blocked online sales of Anytime/Off-Peak first-class fares on shorter routes

That's true, but this relates to *all* Avanti trains on the route on any day, including ones that were only opened for reservations yesterday, and many which have cheapish Advance fares available from Liverpool to Euston.

Avanti have blocked online sales of Anytime/Off-Peak first-class fares on shorter routes

That's really useful to know. Thanks! I should mention that another reason why buying at the station is a bad option is that I lose the 10% discount (via Amex cashback) that I get currently booking via LNER. Anyone know if Avanti's franchise agreement allows them not to make the full range of...

Avanti have blocked online sales of Anytime/Off-Peak first-class fares on shorter routes

I posted last month about the fact that Avanti had pulled all Advance fares on their services between London and Stafford. They have now gone a step further. They have blocked flexible first-class fares on shorter routes from online sales against their trains. For example, from Liverpool, you...

    National Routeing Guide update

Central London on Bank Holiday Monday 2 May. Event finished just after 21:00 and I needed to get home to Nuneaton. Via Leicester with a ticket split at Hinckley was the cheapest option I could find. No options via Bedford were coming up.

    National Routeing Guide update

If there were routes from London to Nuneaton at 21:30 via Bedford, the booking engines did not know about it. Given that this closure happens quite often, I'd love to know how to find these cheaper tickets via Leicester. Trainsplit and other websites don't seem to know anything that is cheaper...

    National Routeing Guide update

Given that I was in London on Bank Holiday Monday at 21:30 and needed to get home to Nuneaton, what cheaper choice did I have?

    National Routeing Guide update

When the West Coast Mainline is closed for engineering south of Rugby, why are there no easements to allow Nuneaton-London travel via Leicester? Last weekend I had to buy two separate, and much more expensive, tickets for a much longer journey. Seems unreasonable.

LNER app losing return leg of journey

You should be glad it wasn't Avanti! Recently, I booked three journeys on the Avanti website in a single transaction, and the resulting mess in the app was a nightmare to sort out. The email confirmation correctly showed the three journeys, but the app had incorrect tickets for the second...

Avanti running "Empty Coaching Stock" in both directions

I do sometimes like to use hyperbole for effect, but, if you think there was hyperbole in my opening post, your understanding of the device is different from mine. Everything I wrote was intended to be taken literally. There's no own goal. As I said upthread, whataboutery arguments are flawed...

Avanti running "Empty Coaching Stock" in both directions

I'll give you the benefit of the doubt that this is a serious post rather than trolling. To suggest it's odd, is odd. No-one, not even staunch environmentalists, takes an absolutist position on green matters; otherwise, we'd never do anything that consumes energy other than the bare minimum to...
