Looks from RTT like service was solidly 4-car all day yesterday. I expect they're very careful to avoid diagramming a 3-car on race days at least. The cancelled diagram ("planning error") was 1620 to Cambridge (too early for racegoers) and the 1709 to Ipswich (not the bigger flow and also before...
This feels like the worst week on the GB rail network for a very long time. The wide spread, consistent nature and deep severity of the compounding issues on almost every line in England and Wales. Would it be overdramatic to say this feels worse than anything since the restrictions imposed...
I used a double 158 on Wednesday from Birmingham International, fortunately only to Birmingham New Street, and i was honestly shocked it was still in service. I boarded an incredibly hot car 2 (which I had headed for because I saw the windows closed and thought the AC must be working). I tried...
Well, what a week of travel. Not intending to make this a trip report but a sense of how unpredictable it has been out there, notwithstanding the eccentric nature of my plans.
On Tuesday:
Plan: Royston-London-Weymouth-Gloucester-Birmingham
Actual: Royston-London-Basingstoke (train...
Now three out of four Kings Lynn trains cancelled leaving the 1718, 1848 and 1948 as the peak service. One of the Cambridge stoppers and a Royston extra also cancelled.
That said, the simpler timetable and diagrams seem to make those isolated cancellations rather than knocking everything out...
Also the 1654 1C80 to Cambridge is being started at Welwyn Garden City "due to train crew being delayed". The ECS from Hornsey to Kings Cross to form it will instead run to Welwyn. People can at least take a Horsham to Peterborough that far.
Other than that, tis but a blip!
With the Brighton-Cambridges cancelled, the interim timetable from Kings Cross consists of 2tph stoppers to Cambridge from P10, and alternating 1tph each to Ely and Kings Lynn from P9, which will later become 2tph to Kings Lynn for the peak.
And I must say, it is running almost impeccably!
There's no chance this would reach court. They'll just give you £2.85, at best. If it did reach court it may well be deemed vexatious. Its a complete waste of the court's time and that of the taxpayer funded GTR. You are doing it to harass GTR rather than recover your loss, by your own...
I thought of this thread yesterday when I made a couple of bookings, I'm glad it isn't locked!
My Heart of Wales end-to-end from Swansea to Shrewsbury recently was almost derailed by a late arrival from Paddington on the day of the GSMR outage. TfW staff at Swansea were brilliant and proactive...
Firstly I think theyve got a bloody cheek crowing about new railway infrastructure having been obstructive to the Railways for two hundred years. It's their fault Cambridge station is anything but "Cambridge Central". I believe I am right in saying that they havent provided any of the funding...
Technically it was absolutely written off.
Written off means a full insurance payout/replacement because it is uneconomic to repair, and the asset becoming the property of the insurance company.
It was written off and GE acquired it back, presumably a very low price but offsetting the...
I just spent multiple minutes Googling Desiro testing accidents at Krefeld and the whereabouts of the twelfth 700/0 before realising you meant 70012
Yes but pairing by direction would create a ton of conflicting movements either at Shepreth Branch Jn or the Cambridge throat, and undo all the capacity benefits of that four tracking and pairing.
Great news in a week of bad news. Dan has today posted a Flash Briefing on the Elstow collision in his usual personable but meticulous style, I recommend it highly as he talks through the accident and the factors around it.
Thank you for this in a difficult week @tpfx89! Hoping to hear a new...
Not primarily for high visibility, but not just for signallers to confirm the train is complete.
There are visibility standards that specifically refer to visibility from distance of the tail light for following drivers as well as maximum levels due to driver dazzle.
I cannot access the pdf as...
I have to agree. High intensity front lights are one thing, but the rear LEDs are much dimmer.
Safety is a belt and braces thing. There never seemed a compelling reason to actively remove yellow ends to me, though I can understand why properly specced white front lights can do a better job...
