Re your trip to Loughborough, I generally find tickets from Rugby are cheaper than from Birmingham (they are definately valid to travel through Birmingham and / or birmingham international, although some guards between birmingham and Nuneaon will debate it)
I don't think they'd be valid from Solihull though
