I have no idea what the service number was, or even the train type, but whilst on the GC service that we took from Hartlepool to Kings Cross last Wednesday (dep 1252), I downloaded a speedometer app onto my Samsung tablet, so I could see what speed we were doing. I only checked it a few times...
I did a day trip from Hartlepool to York and back last Monday, to visit the NRM. The return was on a GC service, so I tried the WiFi on that. This time I managed to load a few pages, but it was so slow that I gave up and went back to 3G via 3. The GC WiFi on the trip from Hartlepool to Kings...
We travelled on Grand Central from York to Hartlepool last Monday. The only thing that I could get from GC's WiFi was an IP address; no connectivity beyond that.
We'll be travelling on GC again next Wednesday; I'll see if it's any different then.
I will be going to Germany, coming back on Saturday night, so my GCR trip will have to be on the Sunday. But given the bustitution involved between BHM and LEI on the outward journey, I'm leaning towards BHM - LBO, even if it costs more.
From memory, we had a similar experience with Grand Central (KGX to HPL and return) when we visited the UK in July 2011, and ended up using 3's coverage (where available) instead.
We'll be back over there in a couple of months, so I'll see if it's any better this time.
Thanks for the advice and all the links.
I guess that there must be trackwork scheduled for Sunday the 10th of March, and the few Sundays prior. When I look at the tickets on offer from BHM to LEI, it's a bus to Nuneaton first. If I end up staying in Birmingham for the entire time (ie; don't...
Thanks for the tips, guys.
I assume that the GCR will only be running trains on the weekend during our time in Birmingham, and not on the Thursday or Friday. Looking at the timetables to and from Loughborough, Saturday looks to be my best bet, however.....
I'm also considering flying to...
Thanks for the link. I hadn't considered buses, since we'll be travelling with bags and large suitcases (and, knowing my wife, packed to the max). Are those buses likely to be geared up for that, or are we better off sticking to a taxi?
Thanks for that, too. I'd considered taking the next...
My wife and I will be visiting the UK in March, mainly because she wants to go to Crufts, then visit relatives in Hartlepool.
The primary train travel will be London - Birmingham (6/3) - Hartlepool (11/3) - London (20/3).
I've already got the London to Birmingham tickets (£7.50 each, on...
G'day from Down Under. :)
In planning a few rail trips in a few month's time, I've come across something that strikes me as odd.....
Some advance singles on XC from BHM to YRK are £16.50, but BHI to YRK (changing at BHM to the same BHM to YRK service) is £12.
Anyone know why...
