Guards receive commission based on their revenue takings (3%) which I believe comes from BR days when Guards first started issuing tickets. There are Drivers based at Carlisle station who work the Tyne Valley and S&C lines. Carlisle depot is a former Arriva depot, Barrow and Workington are former FNW depots I imagine Carlisle being missed is a mistake by whoever compiled the list. You would be able to apply for a Drivers position at any depot within the company regardless of location (Drivers still work to the FNW/ATN conditions Guards are due to be harmonised very soon), its certainly happened in the past and we have a couple of drivers at my depot who were Guards at other depots previously.
