Hi anonymous0101
I have applied recently for a trainee conductor with FSR at Dumfries and was unsuccesful at interview. I know that the conductor assessment is slightly different than the driver one, as no reaction test. I do not have to wait 6 months to apply for a trainee driver position...
How many times can you take the trainee driver assessment if you keep passing that part? I know if you fail twice then it's the end.
If you fail at interview, but pass the assessment, is there a limit on applying?
Hi All
I know that if you fail the trainee driver assessment twice, then forget about a career as a train driver, but what happens in the scenario when you pass the assessment twice and then are unsuccessful at interview or the company you have applied to decides it no longer needs anyone...
Hello Navydavy
Good Luck with your upcoming assessment. I too have one on shortly with Scotrail for a conductor. Let me know how things progress. Mine's is a few days before yours so I will tell you what happens in it, although a different TOC I would think the tests will be broadly similar.
Hello CarterUSM
Thanks for the PM. I would, if I am succesful in getting the position at Dumfries, possibly consider becoming a trainee driver also at some stage. I would certainly relocate if I had to.
Is there a certain length of service I would have to complete before applying for a...
Hello Herdster
Yes, I think I posted something on that thread. How are things going? As I recall they did not want someone until later on in the year (or something). What part of the country are you in & how is the search going? PM me if you like.
It has been about 6 weeks since I applied, but I can't remember the closing date. I also applied online to Virgin for a fixed term 6 month on-board CA and have heard nothing either, so applied to Scotrail as a conductor a day or two ago.
From what I have read on the forums TOCs are notorious...
It does sound rather high Flyboy, but it must be a few quid. £20k(ish) wages while training plus NI contributions the company makes on your behalf. A portion of the wages that the trainer gets paid e.g. their wages divided by number in class. Cost of recruiting in the first place...
Thanks CarterUSM
The job is at one of the more rural locations, and there is no restriction on radius (I live about 35 mile away).
Would it be a 4 day week? Do Scotrail provide accomodation while you train in Glasgow (for 7 weeks I believe)?
Does anyone know where the training takes place with Scotrail? Are the weekly avg. hours 35/ 4 days like most train driving jobs? Would I need to live within a certain radius like Northern Rail?
What is Scotrail like as an employer?
I am sure some readers will know all the answers or...
I have just applied for a CSA on-board with Virgin based in Carlisle, but does anyone have any experience with these Fixed-term contracts, as it seems to be only Virgin who have them?
Why do they not just employ staff permanently, or do these contracts often lead to permanent? Do you go from...
Thank you Firstclass, I know you are employed by Mersey, as I have seen your previous posts.
I don't think that is the job I am looking for this time, but will keep my eyes peeled.
Does anyone know what the vacancies are at Mersey Rail? Usually it just says on the home page 'no current vacancies' but today it gives you the option to apply 'if you think you can make a difference', but the application asks which post you are applying for????
--- old post above --- --- new...
Hello Herdster, sorry to here about your set back mate. I was hoping to have heard something by 6th April as per previous post, but up to now nothing. Keep battling on Herdster you will get there in the end.
Thanks Navydavy. I do want to get a position in the NW, but after failing to apply on time for the trainee positions at Macynlleth with Arriva Wales I have never seen anything advertised in that region, in fact the only other position I have seen anywhere was with London Midland in Birmingham...
