I've read Westerleigh will be served by sea to Avonmouth and then road. Don't know about Theale.

There used to up to 15 oil trains a day to and from the three Milford Haven refineries when I was holidaying in Pembrokeshire in the 1970s. Wagonload freight, parcels and sleeper trains were running too. Spent many happy hours in Johnston signal box watching them.

The Robeston oil traffic is down to 3 trains a week now, and from December there will be nothing. With the Fishguard freight traffic also long gone, freight traffic in Pembrokeshire / West Wales will be finished.
Could that be the end of the Westerleigh line? There’s also the OTP depot but I guess that could be accommodated somewhere else. Sustrans will be on the case immediately given they already have a path on the remaining section of the former Midland route.

sadly not in trainload quantities to any one location.
Well, given the volumes at the time.. That said, I gave it a good job, when BP closed their refinery for a period around 1990. Shell came up with 46 tank wagons at short notice, to start off supply to the Scottish depots.

but presumably respectable numbers of wagons would have been sent from the origin on key services and then dispersed in 2's and 3's on other freight and trip services to depots...

Correct, but Speedlink was closed down.

Exactly my point. 46 wagons divided between all the Scottish depots is not a trainload to each.

Well it was to Mossend.. I doubt any railway depot could have coped with more than a few tankers

An STP path has been entered on RTT for 19/10/26, 6O50 08:33 Eastleigh East Yard to Fratton SS and 6B50 11:54 return. Info says edible products, could this be a one off/trial of the short container trains that use to run in early 2000s for Fyffes bananas ? The sidings that were used then are now EMU stabling sidings !

6O50 now consisted with 66044 and 9 empty FAA wagons. I believe it's another container trial, but I think today's working is planned to come back empty, so might just be testing out the shunting / loading arrangements on site.

Found some photos of the previous trials in 2009:
