To be fair they probably didn't know the water would breach the railway at that point - I think they tried to use the JCB to try and help divert some of the water when the rescue operations started.

The railway runs a water train ---- to be a good neighbour and keep gardens fresh and green in time for daffodil season. (edit I was thinking of a water train fitted with sprinklers)

From the rail performance website there is a run on 20.11.88 of 20 minutes and 46 seconds from Paddington to Reading.... The HSTs with worn tyres go the fastest don't they?

Do the 37's have an achilles hill? At this point in time is an unrefurbished 37 any more of a reliability or have the mainline ones had their wiring/internal systems renewed?
