Thank you for that information, so if I buy a LM special offer ticket BHM to STA at £4.90 and then an anytime day return STA to SOT at £6.30 I can stay on the XC train from Birmingham to Stoke.

I am having problems with the LM offer, for example I have looked at travel from Birmingham to Stafford on Friday March 29th (for football at Burslem) and it shows a special offer price of £4.90 return but all the trains shown are XC services to Manchester and no LM services, surely XC will not...
