My wife and I are going to Scotland for a holiday in early June and staying in an hotel just a few yards from Central Station and will be going to Fort William for a day out. My question is that while we can get the shuttle bus from Central to Queen St in the morning for the 9.00 train to Fort William, but on our return it will be after 21.00 and the shuttle bus will no longer be running so can we travel from Queen St Low Level to Partick, change trains and return to Central Low Level all on the same ticket. We are too old to walk between the 2 stations and also a little afraid of trying it late at night. I did notice last time I was there that most tickets were issued saying Glasgow Central/Queen st.

It is the shuttle bus between Central and Queen St, I believe it stops at about 8pm.

It is a very short walk 5 mins most. The journey via partick is a bit of a long way for a shortcut. Your best bet is to change in dalmuir and get the 21.31 larkhall service that stops in central. Hope that helps.

It is far less hassle just to walk ~ I did it in less than 10 mins tonight with gout ~ foot was loupin' but I was not going to miss my train at GLQ.

How about these suggestions:-
1) Change at an intermediate station enroute e.g. Dumbarton Ctl. or Dalmuir that has a direct service to Glasgow Ctl [GLC].
or
2) Make your ticket out from a local station south of GLC e.g. Pollockshields that will allow you to travel between the terminals.
Your ticket is NOT valid via Partick as its validity ends when you reach either of the Glasgow terminals.

I see. It used to be the Buchanan bus station-Airport bus which was also the shuttle between the stations, but it is now a seperate service, the 398.
The 500 stops outside Queen Street on Hanover Street and at Bothwell Street, just around the corner from Central Station.
I'm not sure if your tickets are valid into Central, I doubt it though.
It's definitely valid by shortest route* into Central if travelling via Clydebank and Partick
*(I'm working it out to be 120 3/4 miles from the NRT, its 122 3/4 if travelling on the direct service via Possilpark, and 121 1/4 if travelling into Queen Street via Anniesland and Partick)

I don't think it would be within the rules, as it's not within 3 miles of the shortest route. Equally, I don't think you'd be refused if you explain why you'd like to catch those trains.
Looking at the timetable, it would probably be quicker to avoid Queen Street entirely, and instead alight at Dalmuir (the stop before Glasgow), catch an Edinburgh train from there to Partick, and then a Motherwell train to Glasgow Central, getting in at 21.35. There are plenty of trains from Dalmuir, so you shouldn't worry if you miss that one for any reason.
The easiest way to see your options on a journey planner is to put Argyle Street as your destination, as the trains through Glasgow Central all seem to stop there and NRE (at least) doesn't suggest you walk any of it.

We did have a discussion like this several months ago. I'm not sure whether Glasgow is different (given the tickets print as Central/Queen St rathet than Glasgow Stations) but the outcome seemed to be that you can continue to another 'terminal station' as long as you don't go through a station that isn't in the Manchester Stations/London Terminals/etc. For example a Coventry to Manchester Stations ticket is fine to arrive at Piccadilly then continue to Oxford Road, but is not fine to go Piccadilly-Stalybridge-Victoria (and also isn't fine to go on the tram).
Your suggestion of choosing a starting station south of Glasgow seems the best for these travellers (either that or a taxi).

Surely the 'best' suggestion for the OP is to go what several others have suggested and change at Dalmuir for a service to Central Low Level?

Even better, if the West Highland train is on time, the 2101 Dalmuir-Larkhall is booked to use the same platform (according to the working timetable it leaves at 21.031/2). It takes the same route for a couple of miles so has no choice!

In early June at 9pm it'll still be broad daylight in Glasgow. On a bright day it'll still be daylight after 10pm
Whilst there are "colourful characters" in the city, it is a short safe and step-free walk from Queen Street to Central. Indeed, these days you'll find there is a cafe culture in central Glasgow and the streets will be busy.
If you do feel uncomfortable though, just grab a Taxi it'll only cost a few pound - although the driver will grumble about the short fare.
