    Mid year ticket price rises

Hmmm, I've just noticed a fairly hefty increase on a GA Super Off-Peak Day Travelcard (with Railcard) from Cambridge to London Liverpool Street. On Jul 27 I paid £14.30, for tomorrow it's £16.25, that's a 13.6% increase.

    GA Smartcard question

Thanks all. TBH the whole system sounds like a complete mess!

    GA Smartcard question

Thanks, I've successfully purchased an off-peak return using the GA App and loaded it onto my GA smartcard. But the app doesn't seem to offer that option for travelcards, just 'collect from station'. Mind you, I'm assuming 'collect from station' means getting a paper ticket from a machine, but...

    GA Smartcard question

OK, I'm probably being dim, but if that's so then why can't I purchase a travelcard (e.g. Cambridge to Liverpool Street using GA trains) and add it to my GA Smartcard? The only option I get is 'collect at station'. FWIW the FAQs here...

    GA Smartcard question

Ah OK, that would explain why I couldn't get it to work, I was trying it out online.

    GA Smartcard question

I was pleasantly surprised at just how easy it was to load the ticket onto the smartcard, no more difficult than getting an e-ticket into Google Wallet. Using a card also seems marginally simpler to me (assuming it works!), no need to get out a phone and get it to display the correct ticket...

    GA Smartcard question

I finally got around to giving a GA Smartcard a try today. After successfully loading an off-peak day return from Cambridge to Ely onto the card, the outward journey went as expected. On arrival back at Ely station though the gatelines were all open, but I assumed I still needed to touch-in...

    GA Smartcard Query

Ah thanks, I'd missed that it actually asks you to specify the card before purchase (if you have more than one card registered), so I imagine you're probably correct. That would certainly avoid multiple 5 minute waits. It's a shame the system isn't a bit more intelligent though.

    GA Smartcard Query

You did indeed! I'm surprised though that there doesn't seem to be a mechanism for specifying which tickets from 'My tickets' you want to load on a card. After all, when using e-tickets you can purchase them all at the same time and send to various mobiles as required.

    GA Smartcard Query

Thanks, I've just tested that and it seems that delivery to a smartcard is only offered when purchasing a single ticket. If I attempt to purchase more than one then it's e-ticket only. Do tickets disappear from 'My tickets' in the app once they've been loaded on to a smartcard? If so then...

    GA Smartcard Query

Thanks, that works. I'd been trying to do it from the app, but for some reason that only gives you the option to order a new smartcard, not manage your existing ones. I still don't know whether I can specify which card each ticket should be loaded to though.

    GA Smartcard Query

Thanks for the responses. I'm still puzzled as I can't see a way of registering/adding a smart card in the app, or of setting a default. How is that done please?

    GA Smartcard Query

I know I can purchase a ticket using the Greater Anglia app, and then load it on to my smartcard. But, if I were to purchase two tickets for the same journey (one for me and one for somebody else), can I then load those tickets on to two different smartcards using the app? I'd have thought it...

    Special Offers Discussion

I'm a bit puzzled. I thought the GA Hare Fares offer was over, yet it appears as though you can still buy them both online and using the app (though admittedly I stopped one step short of actually doing so).

    Greater Anglia Smartcards

Thanks for the additional comments. I see that the option to have the ticket on a Smartcard is only available on some routes. Perhaps it's dependent on both start and destination stations having gatelines that will support Smartcards? There's a map here...
