GA Smartcard Query

I know I can purchase a ticket using the Greater Anglia app, and then load it on to my smartcard.

But, if I were to purchase two tickets for the same journey (one for me and one for somebody else), can I then load those tickets on to two different smartcards using the app?

I'd have thought it ought to be possible, but I'm unable to find anything online which confirms this.

Thanks

I don't think that's possible unless you have two cards registered to your account
I used the GA app just yesterday. It is possible to add more than one smartcard, and then set one as the default. As I haven't got two smartcards I don't know how you'd go about loading tickets to different cards, but I assume it must be possible.

I would expect that you'd also need to make two purchases one for each card

Thanks for the responses. I'm still puzzled as I can't see a way of registering/adding a smart card in the app, or of setting a default. How is that done please?

Log in to your account on the GA site, and on the right is an option of "Manage Smartcards". If you click on that, you get an option to add a smartcard. However, it will not allow a non-GA smartcard to be added - it just rejects the card number as incorrect, which is pretty poor.

Thanks, that works. I'd been trying to do it from the app, but for some reason that only gives you the option to order a new smartcard, not manage your existing ones. I still don't know whether I can specify which card each ticket should be loaded to though.

When you go through the purchase process, you get to delivery options, and there you can specify which card the ticket will be loaded to. If there is more than one card on the account, you may be able to specify one for each, but I'm not sure as I only have one GA smartcard. As this is before payment you can test the process to see how it works, but you may have to make two purchases of one ticket each.

Thanks, I've just tested that and it seems that delivery to a smartcard is only offered when purchasing a single ticket. If I attempt to purchase more than one then it's e-ticket only.

Do tickets disappear from 'My tickets' in the app once they've been loaded on to a smartcard?

If so then presumably you could:

Purchase ticket 1 in app, wait 5 minutes, load on to smartcard 1
Purchase ticket 2 in app, wait 5 minutes, load on to smartcard 2
etc....

which looks like a bit of a palaver.....

You did indeed! I'm surprised though that there doesn't seem to be a mechanism for specifying which tickets from 'My tickets' you want to load on a card.

After all, when using e-tickets you can purchase them all at the same time and send to various mobiles as required.

If you were to make two purchases and specify a different card for each, it may not be necessary to load the first ticket to the card before buying the second ticket. However, the only way to find out is to try and see how the system works. As you specify a card for the ticket to be loaded on to, it would seem odd if you were able to load it to a different card so having more than one ticket in 'My tickets' shouldn't be a problem.

The tickets would be targeted to the card ISRN

Ah thanks, I'd missed that it actually asks you to specify the card before purchase (if you have more than one card registered), so I imagine you're probably correct. That would certainly avoid multiple 5 minute waits.

It's a shame the system isn't a bit more intelligent though.
