Thanks for all the advice. I had a spare day on a non-continuous pass so I used it to travel from Belfast to Dublin this morning. Ticket was checked 3 times but no-one attempted to scan it and all accepted it without a second glance.
I am sure this question has been answered elsewhere but nevertheless I can't find the answer so I apologise for asking it again. If I have an English residential address and a UK passport, am I allowed, on an Interail pass, unlimited travel in Ireland (NI and ROI) or would (say) a journey from...
Is it permissible for a UK resident to use the "outbound from home country" leg of an Interrail pass to travel to Thurso en route for Kirkwall (Orkney Islands) airport and a flight to Bergen in Norway when these are running? I assume that Inverness airport (also for Bergen) is unconroversial...
The first class beds in (at least some of) the MK1 sleepers of 60 years ago were wider than the Mk3 and current offerings and also wider than the Mk1 second class beds.
Thanks for all the advice. I tend To agree with MCR that claiming delay repay for the whole journey Headcorn – Penzance return does look horribly like gaming the system, even if it isn't in this case. It would be easy enough to check whether there were delays out of a London terminal having...
Another Query on behalf of another friend. My friend made a return journey from Headcorn to Penzance earlier this week. He went down without problems on a day train on Tuesday and returned on the sleeper the same evening, arriving at Paddington on Wednesday morning. On arrival at Charing Cross...
This is not a dispute as such, more a request for where to find information. A New Zealand resident friend was travelling from Penzance to Heathrow on 8 July but her train was cancelled causing her to miss the flight back to New Zealand (she had left a large margin of time). She was insured...
There are other anomalies where a ticket to a fixed station may be better than a boundary zone ticket. For instance, a holder of a Freedom Pass and a Senior Railcard travelling from Headcorn on a day return to London on the 09:15 weekday departure from Headcorn would pay £11.05 if a ticket to...
I need to make a day return next week from Ashford (Kent) to Birmingham International and then on York with return direct from York to Ashford via Kings Cross/St Pancras. The first part could be fixed but the other two legs need to be flexible. I am no expert in the routeing guide but I...
I tried a day return journey from Ashford (Kent) to Liskeard leaving after 07:00 on 04 April and was given an arrival time of 15:35 even using intensive search on a £112.50 ticket outward route Victoria, Clapham Junction whereas an arrival time of 13:34 is possible via Paddington for the same...
Using a ticket where break of journey is permitted, is it permissible to break the journey at one station and resume further down the line? For instance, on a Penzance to Plymouth journey would it be allowable to get off a train at Camborne and rejoin a later train at Redruth? To take an...
Where is the "paucity of flights" to Cornwall in summer? There are seasonal flights from Edinburgh, Newcastle, Manchester, Liverpool, Doncaster/Sheffield and Birmingham to Newquay. Admittedly most of these aren't daily but they are scheduled for the periods of highest demand.
The last train of the day from Martigny to Le Chatelard in Switzerland is a request train - you have to ring ahead if you wish to travel; no train runs if there are no passengers. If you travel beyond Salvan/Les Marecottes you are more likely than not to be alone on the train.
