Trivia - journeys which start in one direction before doing a 180 degree (ish) turn

Fort William to Bridge of Orchy. North-East to Spean Bridge, East to Tulloch, South through Corrour to Rannoch then South-West to Bridge of Orchy.

    Railways in Pop Culture

One which sticks in my mind is the opening credits of Crossroads (literally the first few seconds) which featured a 47 hauling a DMU and brake van. I used to tune in just for that then switch over to something else. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ynHL2e4ztII

    Train Tracker

Yep, some very odd routings on there. It thinks the Glasgow-Aberdeen services run as normal to Perth then double back to Stirling then via Alloa, Dunfermline, Thornton Jn and the Tay Bridge to Dundee and onwards as normal.

    Humorous Anouncements

Why the confusion? She disappears off the face of the planet for years and now she's back she's everywhere! I opened the fridge the other day and she was in there clutching a mug of tea belting out "All I Ask".

08523 comes to grief at Inverness (8th Oct)

No wonder it derailed with all those containers piled on top of it. :D

    Serco for Sleeper

1S25 does not call at Stirling, Dunblane or Gleneagles during the period of the diversions despite it travelling through those stations. Passengers are advised to travel to/from Glasgow Central on the Lowland sleeper on the sleeper website.

    Serco for Sleeper

Due to work at Winchburgh Tunnel 1S25 would need to be diverted via Fife but there is no available path northbound between Ladybank and Perth due to various ECS movements southbound. So easiest option is detach at Carlisle and run direct via Coatbridge, Larbert, Stirling etc

    The wrong Peckham

In the mid-80's I had a spell working in the travel centre at Stirling station. One day this old chap (slightly the worse for a few drinks) came in wanting a single to "Ayr Middle". The guy serving him tried to confirm that he meant Ayr in Ayrshire as there wasn't a station called "Ayr...

Trivia: Administrative centres that have a direct service to London

Presumably Dumbarton should be added to the list with direct services as the Euston sleeper calls there?

    Temporary stations

Culross had a temporary station in 1992 for an open day at nearby Longannet Power Station. http://www.railbrit.co.uk/imageenlarge/imagecomplete.php?id=18443

    Charter train at preston

Probably the Fellsman (1Z53 Carlisle to Lancaster via S&C) which runs every Wednesday. Was at Preston from 1945 to 2005 last night. No idea what was on it though.

Has there ever been a Thurso-Wick shuttle service?

Until the end of loco hauled services there wasn't even a direct service between the two towns. Travelling by rail between Wick and Thurso involved a lengthy fester at Georgemas Junction.

Fantasy: The longest way round from London to Edinburgh

You cant get from Partick to Maryhill without reversing at Westerton. There is no physical connection from the Maryhill-Anniesland branch to the North Clyde line.

    BBC Documentary 'The Railways'

There's a fair few clips from it YouTube.
