Thanks for all the replies. I think from what yous are saying it's possible to become a train driver without any previous experience in rail, but it's much harder to the point where you mightaswell just get a job in rail? And qualifications do come in handy, but really just a pass at maths...

We get told at school that when applying for jobs, they usually choose the people with the best qualifications. :-|

That couldn't happen, because the train wouldn't have enough time to slow down before passing the danger signal. D:

It couldn't be like that. All other jobs mianly look at the qualifications. If they didn't, what would be the point in them? I know it's hard to get a job as a train driver, but TOCs aren't allowed to push it as far as not even recognizing the qualifications the government requires all companies...

Surely if you pass it it won't change? :-? That would be a bit dangerous, because you could pass a green then 5 mins later it changes to a red, by which time it's too late. :-|

I meant it as in, do you think that I'd most likely automatically make it past the application process to the assessment process? Seeing as I would have some of the best qualification you can get. :D And I don't like the idea of getting a job in a TOC and waiting for a trainee driver position...

I think you're correct here, because I had noticed the metros are going much slower than usual on that part of the track and that part of the track has usually had problems with the small cliff next to it eg it has had to be reinforced a lot to prevent it from collapsing. Maybe it needs to...

It isn't, it's the red outlined signs that were changed. It says this about the blue one, "I'm not certain what the white on blue circular sign beneath is."

I know that it's different speed limits, I just didn't know the proper ones so I put 40 instead. :-P But one line is the Tyne & Wear metro line towards pelaw, and the other is the mainline line when it's just about to enter Heworth. However the blue sign couldn't be the standard metro sign...

It's just past Heworth, which is one station away from Newcastle on the line towards sunderland/middlesbrough/hartlepool. :-P
