photographing rail stations and trains

i will be visiting UK - durham, leicseter, london, northhampton, york and few other places - i am a photographer from singapore and was wanting to take monochrome pictures of rail stuff" - want to know from peple who are in this forum about tips, interesting places, old rail station facades...

We noticed on the web that having a rial card entitles us for discounts on rail travel - we have 4 journeys to make in the UK over a period of 10 days, all in Oct, and we were wondering where to purchase a rail card? It is not clear to us as we are tourists from singapore.:oops:
