    Pilning footbridge & station

I'm looking forward to the sometimes proposed new station on the A4 near Avonmouth. That'll be Portway Parkway.

    When to "pull the cord"?

Thanks, all clear now. As I said, I've never taken a bike on a Pendolino, but now I recall that Virgin have compulsory reservations, which sort of makes sense but is rather restrictive. I think I prefer the HST system (bikes in van with no access to carriage A for passengers, but van door...

    When to "pull the cord"?

Could I ask exactly what happened with the cyclist? Never having taken a bike on a Pendolino, I'm not familiar with the secenario. Where was he that he needed a staff member with carriage key to let him out? I presume this is a sort of guards van for bikes – but how then did he get in? Are the...

    Great Western Electrification Progress

I don't think there's any need for extra platforms at Stapleton Rd, just pointing out that it's not "all pax" today.

Not quite all passengers. Stand on the bridge at Narroways now and you still see coal trains, but they're travelling north.

    Fuel for thought.

This whole thread reads like a good reason for electrification!

    Bridge Strikes

I think having the height displayed in the cab is only legally required if it's over 3m, which that van doesn't look to be.

    Great Western Electrification Progress

Good to hear there is passive provision for two rather than one new stations on Filton Bank, though of course passive provision is not necessarily a sign of intention. Stapleton Rd the second station of Bristol? I can't see it. Good place for a curry, though.

+1 Oh, the silly software won't let me say just "+1".

Tytherington Quarry; freight line to reopen?

That's encouraging news. Passenger services though? I can't see it happening, I'm afraid. Too much politics!

    Tail Lights On

That's interesting. I can't have been the only one wondering about it.

Bicester Town > Village - flawed renaming

Agreed. Point is, those are the names generally used. I'm not sure, for instance, whether Paddington is strictly London Paddington or just Paddington. Does it matter? "Single to Paddington" for the familiar is the same as "Single to London Paddington" for the unfamiliar or indeed "Single to...

Bicester Town > Village - flawed renaming

They don't need it. Kings Cross, Paddington, Waterloo, etc are all instantly recognisable without 'London'. The same is true for some stations in other towns and cities: Mordor Central, Waverley, Temple Meads, Finlandska, Zoo... Even something as vague as Gare du Nord is in practice instantly...

Two Trains on a Platform Door Policy

Why should the situation even occur? To avoid confusion, one train could depart from a non-adjacent platform.

Virgin Trains' bizarre priorities - "quiet crockery"

Ah, I thought this was a thread about Richard Branson's age. But surely more appropriate to describe him as an old buffer!
